I’m back on stand for the evening sit. Brett is down in my valley. I feel bad because he hasn’t seen a deer yet but it’s one of the best spots in the area. I moved over to cover the pond area that is affectionately known as the dumb*** camp. It’s a good spot. It’s where I wanted to start but that truck was parked here. Now I know he was just scouting.
Yes thats it. He's had it for years. He was hit by a drunk driver when 12 or 14. He and boyscout friends walking back from getting ice cream after a meeting. He heard the tires on gravel and started shoving friends out of the way and was hit. They never found the guy. He nearly lost a leg messed him up pretty bad.
Here's something that's been bugging me lately. I've been messing with trailcams for more than 30 years. I had one of the very first trailcams ever marketed. It was called a trailmaster and consisted of a transmitter and receiver. You could put the two pieces about 20yds apart and if an animal walked through and broke the beam, you got a pic. They used 35mm film and compared to today's cams, they were a mess. Well, in all the time I have used cameras I never set them up at my stand sites until the last few years. Don't ask me why, I just never did. Well in the last few years I've been putting them at my stand sites. Now, if I get pics of something when I should have been there it really bugs me! I don't want to know, but I do want to know. Many times they make me feel like @MUDSHARK did today. Oh well, ain't this fun! What say you all, do you want to know? Ok I have to post this. I built this blind well over 15 yrs ago. All scrape wood and plexi glass for sliding windows. I ran out of material and needed two doors. One to deck and one to enter blind. These are my card board doors after over 15 yrs. Cheap sometimes pays off. The one not painted faces NNW Out side is covered in adhesive shelf liner and has not peeled once.
I haven’t used trail cameras in about five years. I really wanted to start relying on my woodsman ship…….. ask me how that’s going, lol! But I really don’t miss running them. I really like the element of surprise…. Again, ask me how that element is working.
I agree. Gunna sneak in there and change batteries/pull cards then I will know for sure if I should be going after him. Blue jays have been going nuts in this thick willows/buckthorn since I got in the stand. Haven’t heard or seen anything yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Oh man alls been quiet and peaceful but it's go time and like every single night at this time I hear the nieghbor let his dog out to bark non stop. One thing this tells me...he's not hunting so either tagged or busy.
99 percent sure I just tagged my buck. Not a monster but man did I get excited. Saw him stumbling but cannot see him now. Gonna hang out for a minute. Pics to come hopefully Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I can’t get back out until the 10th, for a week. Reading this thread every day is killing me. Damn you all, I mean, good luck all I was just thinking about this. In my best spot, I usually have a cam or 2. But I refuse to put a cell cam there. If I see pics of giants cruising or chasing does all over, it will drive me nuts. I’ll have to make the 6 hour drive and probably end up losing my job. No joke
I can't win A big buck just walked to Rivers blind and stood broad side a few minutes. then started walking brush pilefence my way. When I saw him turning away I grunted but he LIMPING HARD went down to nieghbors swamp. Big sweeping rack, bright white.
I don’t have them on my stand sites. Just in the general vicinity. I do have a non cell camera on the stand I’m in now but haven’t had much come by it. Trail cameras have become more of a hobby like hunting for me. I upload my pictures to Facebook and everyone loves them. I love it when my friends kids ask me the next time I’m putting pictures up. Deer are great but so are waterfowl, bear, wolves, bobcats, fisher, turkeys, and everything else. Just awesome to try and get good pictures of wildlife. Helps with trespassers too. Live from a new setup. On the new property tonight doing some mobile scouting/hunting from the ground. Wind is in my favor but we'll see how stealthy I can be.
