Tred Barta would have hunted all day in a tank top in Antarctica to see just a single doe. I'm hunting until 2pm. Tred Barta would want that.
The cold got the best of me. Plus I had to let the dogs out. I'm home, warming up. I head back out in a little while. As soon as I thaw out. My apologies to Tred Barta. I wussed out. Tony is not far behind me or he already beat me out of the woods. Good luck lady and gents.
I am such a wussy. I left to early. Tree stand is 7 ards away from this camera. I left at 1035 cause I was cold. I'm an idiot
I got down and looked and found nothing. No arrow and no blood anywhere near the impact point or on the first part of the trail it ran on. That isn't just a thicket it ran into. It's a giant cut-over grown up with saw briars over my head. At this point it's hopeless because of the amount of time that has elapsed. I'm a little bummed because those things are really good eating, plus I lost an arrow, but without a good blood trail it's no use. The spot will still be good for hunting deer. They don't travel in that thicket I stomped around in.
That makes 3 separate coyote sightings since 6 am. I think I need to get out of here and go to one of my other rut spots. Thoughts?
I would switch it up, often times when I hunt all day I move around 12/1 just to change it up if I’m not in the action! Keep your head in the game only takes a few seconds!
Hogs can be tough to get much of a blood trail from. All that fat is really effective at clogging up holes and not letting blood out. A few years ago when hogs were open season year round a couple of buddies and I shot a lot of them and it's surprising how little trail they can leave even with perfect shots. In their infinite wisdom the AGFC decided trapping hogs was better than hunting them so it's only legal to take them during deer, bear or elk season and the darn things are protected on most WMA's in the state. On private land they're fair game anytime. https://www.agfc.com/hunting/more-game/feral-hogs/
