I got out this weekend and checked cams and limbed out a different tree to use for my climber this whitetail season, it is a staging area for bucks during the rut. It always has scrapes and rubs, it is timber on the edge of a big open area and I think they appear to stage there before dark. Discovered it a couple years ago, shouldn't have taken me this long to get a tree ready for the climber in there. Had my bow tuned for upcoming archery elk, bare, field points, and fixed hitting together. Did that last weekend. Just needed to finish sighting in this weekend. Saturday morning I sighted in out to 60 yards. Then shot a fixed and a field point at 40, within 1" of each other. Confidence in equipment at level 10! Then saturday evening I decided to shoot a bit more. Second arrow took a nose dive into the dirt, WTH? Confidence in equipment now at level 1! Stupid me used a football clamp for my cable driven rest even though I've read so many people say they slip. Guess what? It slipped. Glad it happened now and not during elk season. I got home from the property and served it in, it won't be slipping now. Everything should still be the same, will confirm sometime this week or might have to be this weekend.
Anyone here good with new growth tree identification? Have an evergreen/pine/cedar about 8-9" tall growing in white quartz landscaping and curious to what it actually is. Guessing bird chit a seed out or something, right along the fence. Don't want to kill it, but not looking for a 30 foot tree either if transplanting.
Will do, probably in the morningthough for better light. I noticed it this afternoon going to bring in garbage can. Usually weeds growing when not sprayed but has that Christmas tree look even at less than 10".
You know it's getting close when you can't sleep because you're thinking about everything you need to do before season. In bed at 1030 and bet I didn't get to bed until 1230 thinking about everything I need to do to get ready for ND opener. Then that leads into me thinking about where we should start scouting, and that leads me to think about everything we scouted last year, places we can set cams, etc, etc, etc.
was hoping to get at least 1 weekend in the stand in Sept then the wife showed me the family calendar hahaha - 4 kids in activities, me in stuff, wife in stuff yep, not hunting in Sept.
Eye’d say the ol Marlin Model 60 is dialed. Fifteen minutes from tree to refrigerator. Fast food. Sunday I’ll add a few more. Ive been wanting to try some squirrel on the smoker. 2/2 for the week
Thought you only did that with white rocks/crystals I couldn't tell you the difference between a crushed maple leaf or white pine
They all have a different smell. For instance a concolor fir smells like Oranges/mandarin. Obvious difference between cedar and white pine.
You sure can tell we are all bored when we are discussing various aromas of conifers....come on deer season!
