This is an automatic in KS. Land owner 100% protect unless money changes hands to hunt. Prob with it is, still doesn't prevent a lawsuit. People sue each other for dumb **** all the time regardless of the law.
Thanks Adam Cls, kind of a legality issue about shooting one from the cabin. Mn is a no baiting state. I do have a bird feeder right out back. Once natural food/ hard winer sets in, a few young deer will come and eat stuff that hits the ground. So far this year, non have that I've seen. Deer have no problem coming through the yards on all 4 sides. (Seldom a big buck though). Hell, 1/2 my yards is a foodplot (legal), so my general rule is, 3 sides are fair game. As of right now, I've not seen a deer of evidence of and coming to my bird feeder yet this year. So, yes, if a big walked through the back now, I probably would but if and when deer start hitting the feeder, I would not. I've never seen a good buck come to it before. But have seen them follow does through the yard. Some say (and they are right),, I have the best " stand" in the world. Could have shot 100s from it with a bow, but I'd rather be in a portable/ ladder stand along the river. I wish all members here could/ can enjoy the pleasure I have. It's truly a blessing.
I remember a time when GMMAT would post a question and end with that statement. Oh, there was definitely a wrong answer.
Hey guys! I can't keep up in here with my new job, but thought you might enjoy the story from Saturday night... At 6:22 Em (8 year old) started complaining that she was bored and wasn't going to last another hour. 3 mins later, I catch movement on the trail we expect bucks to take. I could only make out his left side, which looked good, and decided he was a shooter. He picked up his pace and dropped down into the creek at 22 yards. I bleated, he stopped and I smacked him. The whole encounter took maybe 20 seconds! We followed really good lung blood for 75 yards and then it just stopped. A buddy showed up with a better light and got us back on blood. The buck headed straight down a 100 ft cliff, J hooked around in the floodplain and finally died on the creek bank. Dragging him back up the cliff, with rain coming in 30 mins, was sounding pretty impossible, so we put him in the creek for a little swim. I was able to walk with him for about 50 yards before dropping neck deep in a hole and swimming him another 100 yards. A neighbor met me at the bank with a quad and we all made quick work of him.
Five days ago I climbed a tree in the morning here at home and it was almost 70 degrees. There is a frost warning tonight and the next two nights the temps are going to drop well below freezing. That lit a fire under me and I scrambled to get everything loaded into my travel trailer. I'll be towing it up to Mark Twain National Forest tomorrow. The wife and I drove up to check the campsite today. Even though today was the last day of a two day youth gun season there was not a hunter anywhere in the area. The rain put a damper on that I guess. Anyway, we saw 12 deer just driving in and out. I drove down the forest road and we jumped a very nice (120-ish) buck bedded close to the road. I'm getting excited about this trip. @Brett Smith will be arriving Wednesday for a few days and then a couple more members may be showing up around the weekend. Something tells me the deer are going to be on the move the next few days.
Great story Josh! The things we're willing to do for a buck. Congratulations again! Just out of curiosity, what was the temperature like there for your swim?
Definitely not GMMAT, he had it all figured out. Didn't even need to ask him, he'd let you know. I did enjoy him in his beginning, he just let ego and more ego get in the way. No wrong answer in my asking. His cabin may be the sanctuary others bury deep into the woods.
Oh, I know that Clint. I just saw that statement and kind of had a flashback to the old verbal knock-down/drag-out exchanges.
Well, better yesterday than a day or two from now. With below freezing temps I'd be figuring out how to winch it up that cliff.
I was reading back through the events of my Arkansas hunt and saw this again. I meant to reply but got side-tracked so I wanted to take the opportunity (a little late) to say that while I may be colorblind I know s**t when I see it. That's what I do. I drink, I kill deer and I know s**t. (Your comment did make me laugh, by the way.)
