I went in to a place I wanted to hunt, thick as hell and not that much sign, bounced over to another place and it was wide open hardwoods, found where it meets up with some thick pines and there’s a good trail paralleling the pines and a couple coming out of it. I was really close to just bouncing to another spot that I had already hunted a few times this year. But I’m really trying to get out of my comfort zone of only going into areas I had been before or prepped. Not crazy about my set up but here I am lol a bunch of rubs in here in the pines nothing big. Found some good feeding sign in some acorns in the open woods. Thick pines to my west, open woods to my east and the wind is coming out of the south blowing right back up to the road Oh and my first saddlebro selfie of the year Haven’t seen a deer from the stand in a couple sits so just hoping to catch one moving tonight!!!
Round 2. It's about 75. Overcast. Think I've been hunting this 50 acre section wrong. Adjusted about 150 yds south. As much as I want that thicker part to have sign, it just doesnt.
Good luck folks. It took some convincing by my wife but I’m going to take the evening and tomorrow morning off to relax a bit.
Thinking ahead to the next few weeks and longer/all day sits. For those that do them what are some things you bring with that you usually don’t? Thermos+coffee is something I’m thinking about this year. Bigger bottle of water. Usually bring venison sticks or venison summer sausage, triscuits, and a few candy bars to get me through the day. Don’t really bring much with me when I’m out. I’ve been getting by without a pack so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
All day I'll bring min 60 Oz of water or whatever. Plenty of food, preferably dense foods with lots of calories. Makes packing easier.
I’m in the blind behind the house for the first time. A doe and twins were here yesterday evening so hopefully they come back again today
for all dayers, I'm a minimalist food wise, I'll drink coffee driving there, but try to piss it away before or during the long walk to my location....I dont want to be pissin' alot from the stand and then have to get down and take a dump at a bad time .. I do take water, apple, granola type of bars, dont forget the TP (just 'cause) ... and if you take meds, dont forget them, the last thing you want to do is forget the flowmax, etc. .. I'll eat big when I get home that night ..
No luck for me tonight, had the fawn come through then right at the end of shooting light had a little buck making a rub at 50ish yards couldn’t tell what it was
Today and tomorrow will be work days. I will be out early morning. If cramping doesn't kill me tonight. I leaf blew today. Yard drive and trails. Found a huge bed in swamp 10 yrds from stand. Cleaned shooting lanes . Worked gardening prepped studded tired to be put on. Well drove down at 6:20 to meet hubby at shop to drop off car so I can hunt in a.m. I passed lower tree plot and there stands a buck under chestnut closest to open tower blind. We come back me riding in bed. His office is a travel one so filled with paper work. He hits breaks at field and I see buck under apple tree..lol figures
I could not do an all day sit even if I knew I could be at the cabin at dark with a naked Cindy Crawford and a hot meal waiting for me. I know I SHOULD, but can't. I've seen some damage good bucks though mid day from the window!. Usually after I hunted for a couple hours in the morning, came back and started cooking lunch. Iffn I had the time and fortitude, I'd sit ALL day in a funnel betwixt 2 doe bedding areas from about Oct 25_ Nov 15th.
Pretty good advise. I pack a bunch of food but more than a couple of my planned all day sits have been sabotaged by intestinal requirements. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
