The doe was very slightly quartering away when shot. I still don’t know what vitals I hit being that far forward I initially thought I hit her in the leg and felt like dog $hit as she took off out there 3 legging it. I waited a half hour before I got down to look for my arrow. I found only the the broad head half and there wasn’t much blood on the arrow but there was a blood on contact then it picked up pretty good so I just kept following the blood she did bed down once she went maybe another 30yds from her bed and was dead when I found her. Thanks everyone for the congrats. The shot broke the front leg on the entrance side and passed through the very front of the chest cavity low.
I got up this morning and drove to my older brother’s house in Flippin, AR. He has permission to hunt 120 acres near Bull Shoals Lake and since he doesn’t feel safe hunting alone he got permission for me to join him. We just got back from a scout/hang stands trip and I found what looks to be a fantastic spot close to a small pond. Quite a few scrapes and rubs but I found one big white oak that had four scrapes under it. I put my stand 20 yards away and evacuated. I’ll be getting in stand about 3:00. I don’t plan to shoot a doe the first evening so if I launch an arrow it’ll be a buck.
This cam got bumped so not great pics but judging by his bases looks to be a decent buck. Doe came hauling ass past first then 20 min later he came through open mouthed like he was on a mission looking for her. He walked around the camera for awhile. All kinds of acorns there too so might have been feeding but looks like at least some harassment has begun.
One more meeting and I'm headed to some public land. I should have cell service for the first time this year, so I'll be able to participate here instead of handing out likes and congrats after the fact. Good luck everybody.
