Wind and driving rain all day today. Tomorrow we have a benefit/bean bag tournament for one of my best friends who passed a few years ago. Sunday and Monday look to be prime days. Bout one more week and things are about to get moving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Live from the fuel truck seat today. One perk of my job is that I establish good relationships with landowners and farmers. Just having small talk with another customer of mine secured me another 200 acres of prime deer and turkey hunting ground. A few counties over and totally different terrain to hunt.
Thank you everyone with congrats and well wishes. The 26 yard shot felt good and as I released it started to step forward. It looked ok then. But as I went on the track trail. I knew deep down. Thanks for the years of experience on here when I was following blood trail I saw that it was dark blood. I knew to back out from reading previous post over the 15 years I've been on here and took one more step and BB started to struggle to get up. I knew it was time to back out. He only went 10 more yards and laid back down to thick i couldn't get a follow up shot. I waited and thought I heard the trash. I went over he was done. Thanks again everyone.
Seeing a big buck on the hoof pushes my overall drive through the roof. Shot of motivation in an instant.
Heck yeah man. Go get em! 2005 was the last time I hunted with a gun. 5min after sun up a good buck came by but I couldn't get off a shot. Saw him take the high ground overlooking a valley. I got down and backtracked his movements then set up. Even in mid Nov he didn't come off that bed(or so I think) until 20 min before sundown. I sat sun up to sundown minus the time it took me to set up for the 2nd time. Shot him with a muzzleloader 15min before sundown. I can still remember that hunt and how tired/happy I was.
I am anxiously following you all, 3 weeks until I hit the stand. Looking forward to it. My buddy bought another 160 acres abutting the 206 acres we already hunt. I will be live on the afternoon of 11/4 for 12 days. Keep at it, and be safe.
The deer I shot yesterday in NJ had a very swollen neck. I also found lots of small trees and shrubs shredded while tracking him. Lastly I saw the Spike chasing the Doe with her fawn. I think pre rut is coming early. I think the last week of October is going to be magic in the Northeast. Hopefully VT and NH can keep me busy.
