I have 3 options for tomorrows evening hunt, actually more but these are my best options I can think of. Could go to the private land in MD, the cameras there have been void of any decent buck for the past week or two, minus a 3:30am picture of one of my shooters this morning. Or I can go to the Maryland public land, had a trail cam out there for 10 days and had deer in the evening 3 of those days, switched to a cell cam last Friday and haven’t had a deer on it since. Or I can go in blind to a new spot in PA that has a lot of room to roam, bigger woods setting but no idea about deer population or how they move. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thought I would get out here and see what an 83 degree day would be like. Couldn’t go where I wanted so I’m at plan D. Sitting on the ground scouting for late October. Shot a ground hog at 15 yards. Every small critter is coming to a floor covered with acorns. Maybe something will happen.
I vote go roam. Sounds like deer are on to your camera. Good time find new spots. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I actually don't mind scouting in the rain. The brush/leaves are quieter, the rain falling covers any noise I make, I feel i can push a bit closer to areas I might skirt around with the knowledge my advent will be washed away or tempered... Some of my best trap sets were done in the rain, when I used to trap...
Got an invite for a hunt this weekend. I'm 50/50 on it. It would be a Sunday evening hunt, and that's the problem. I have always opted not to hunt the evening before I have to work the next day. Both for the chance I could botch the shot for a longer than anticipated recovery or next day search or the potential rush of it all to get the meat cooled. Having to work at 6am the following day and working until 4:30 having an hour drive on top of that would leave for a lengthy spoil time. 24 hour meat cooler is also an option for processing. Decisions, decisions
Watched the MN Twins win a playoff series for the first time since 2002 but really regret not being in a tree tonight. Wind died much earlier than was predicted. Beauty of a night with the cooler temps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This should be an awesome weekend. Almost 30 degree drop in high temperatures. I'm driving back from SC for business early Friday AM and turning around and driving to Ohio to hopefully be on stand for an evening hunt on Friday. About 12.5 hours of driving to do but that's what we do for the sport we love.
How long of a drive do you have tomorrow Johnny? I'm betting a minimum of 2 "arrow launched" this trip.
It's killing me to be in SC. The last 3 mornings on my OH target buck, he has shown up in daylight first thing in the morning.
