That's great news Clint. Now the waiting game begins. Make sure you get all your stuff together before your time off comes. Especially that watch.
Here is the property I usually hunt. I will be hunting from Blind #1 today. It's an easy access without having to disturb anything. The deer bed in between 1 and 2. I have a SE wind. Just to the West of blind #1 there is a big drop-off so the deer feel comfortable in that area because they can't be seen from the road. It's been a dynamic spot the last couple of years. I'm packed and ready to go just waiting on my sons school to let out here in an hour.
I’m set up for the afternoon. I got out earlier than I wanted to because I needed to move my stand and the ground is dry, crunchy and loud so I had to move slowly. I ended up moving 37 yards SSE to a tree that will put me in chip-shot range of where the deer moved yesterday. Of course, it remains to be seen if they will do the same thing this afternoon. Knowing my luck they’ll walk right by the tree I was in which is downwind. Im just rolling the dice here.
Oh, and the sun found a big hole in the canopy so I should be medium-rare by sunset. The wind is in my favor though and I’m feeling bloody.
If it happens it’ll be between 6:30 and 7:10 my time. The wind just won’t stay steady. It’s doing a lot of shifting and could ruin this sit.
Same thing happened to me Saturday night, but I was high enough and the thermals were still rising that I didn't get busted. Once Sunset happens Thermals drop, and the wind will kill you.
Tricky still. There's a lot of public land, but looking at an hour drive each way. Pretty much same as what I used to have, but it was driving to private land where I had 50+ acres to myself most hunts, until the final several years anyway. One site has 2,400 acres the other has 16,400 and is the one I will mostly hunt. I just don't get the time to scout when it is that far of a drive. With 17 days in peak rut I should be able to at least have some fun with it and make moves when necessary. As for private, I still have a couple invites from coworkers. One is small parcels where I might try to get out to get a doe in the next few weekends. May be able to go on my own if I hunt his back yard 4 1/2 acres. The other is 150 acres, but would only be hunting when he does so timing would be somewhat of an issue depending on when he hunts and I work.
We got setup. I might have to switch out this blind. The windows are way too high for my son but we will do our best. If something happens for us it will most likely be in an hour or so from what the cameras have been saying. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Nothing like drinking coffee while you check the wind! I don’t know why but I don’t hit snooze when getting up early for hunting. But to get up for work I’ll hit that thing 4-5 times
My cameras were dead this morning, afternoon & evening I believe the high temps are to blame Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
