I ended up having a button buck mill around me for a hour. Then about 30 minutes later a doe and same button buck go by at about 50 yards. They feed in a swamp til dark. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Covered in deer the last hour. No big ones. They sure do like to drink out of the creek below me. Taking a few days off and will be back Sunday or early next week depending on the weather tomorrow. 54 as a high and rain throughout the day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I finally got home at about 8:10 after being pinned in my tree a half hour after dark. I saw a single deer feeding across the bottom about 20 minutes before the end of legal light. I never could tell what it was because it was too far away and it was pretty thick timber. The closer it got the darker it got. I thought it was going to feed out of sight but it turned and fed straight for me. Again, the closer it got, the darker it got. By the time it got into bow range I could just barely tell it was a deer, let alone if it was a buck or a doe. It went to the mineral site. I know this for two reasons: I could hear it licking and my Tactacam Reveal sent me a pic. It was a single doe, so I got the laser pointer out and lasered the crap out of it and it ignored it. I finally fished out my head lamp and turned it on. It just stood there. I tried the laser pointer again. Nothing. It was only 15 yards away, so finally I grabbed my water bottle which was half full and threw it at her. It almost hit her and she finally bolted. I got down as quickly as I could and got out of there. I'd have posted this sooner, but as I was posting this my neighbor came over and talked for a while. I'll be back in that stand in the morning.
Here she is before I started lighting her up and throwing stuff at her. At the time this pic was taken I was 25 feet up and 15 yards behind her.
Sounds like a save for the rut stand, running gets them just as thirsty as heat would and it's not even hot today. They still follow well traveled routes as long as they don't get keen to intrusion. I want to see you put down one of them bucks this year. Go Nike on them and just do it!
Finally found an elk...not mine. Looked like a bear found her first and partially buried. About 150 Ravens on it before I walked up on it.
There’s a couple of old nannies that need to go, that is why I held off this time. But you are correct, easily deflated if I wanted to.
To make this evening even better, I just got this pic from Josh. It’s at the stand that I called the “honey hole” There are a lot of words I’d like to use to describe how I feel about this but I would have to warn or ban myself.
Think I’m going to borrow a lone wolf and sticks from my buddy and just run and gun rest of the year. Leave that XOP there and not go back until an October cold front. Probably the smartest thing to do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Best friend letting me borrow his lone wolf and sticks for the season. Basically going to run and gun on the back 40 the next 2 months. Can’t wait to get to the south end once the winds are right. I’ve been there 4 times the last 4 months just to check cards and that’s where I’ve got all of the bigger bucks on camera. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It was in the low 90s when I walked into hunt on Wed. It is in the low 50s now. I'm up and ready to hit the road. Big buck Friday or bust.
