She's all cut up and in the fridge. The head, hide, lower legs and spine are bagged in the freezer and will go into the trash for pick up tomorrow. That's all I leave behind besides a gut pile in the woods somewhere.

I've already showered off and am having a celebratory beer.... or two.....

I was absolutely drenched with sweat when I finished this job. It took a little longer than normal because I was just out of practice and unorganized.

After the two horrible trips I've made I wanted to kill any deer just to make sure I wasn't cursed this season.

Butchered spelling and all aside, still one hell of a dog.

Remembering when she went missing, a sad time and miraculous reuniting.

I miss my dog every day, but simple pictures such as this reminds me of him.

Oh, okay. I had no idea. It all looks the same to me.

I didn't even know "gut" had a color.

    I hate being colorblind.

Oh, you know how it is Dave. I just couldn't find a deer that I really liked.

(First stinking shot I've had so far.)

I know exactly how you feel Clint. I really do.

As for Elly May going missing, I still think about what happened that December all the time. That was a horrible eleven days for my wife and I.

It's so funny when we take Elly May out to track. You'd think a beagle would bawl on the track. She does get excited when we put the harness on her. She probably just thinks she's going for a walk. When she knows she's going into the woods though she starts bawling, and she has one of the most ear splitting bawls I've ever heard from a beagle.

She'll yelp and bawl right up until we get to the arrow and we let her sniff it. Then she goes quiet, like she realizes this isn't a rabbit she's after and this is serious business. The only sound she will make is when she whines because we aren't moving quickly enough to suit her.

I think that is a pretty good trait for a deer tracking dog.

Looked like gut on the fletches as well. You said quartering too you. Was the exit back far enough for guts? Doesn’t really matter at this point since we know the out come, lol. Just curious

Yeah, I didn’t get around to posting it last night. She was quartering to me more than I thought and the exit wound was low and back.

I guess what little gut it caught replaced all of the good blood.

As soon as I shot I knew she wasn’t going anywhere. She made it about 50 yards.

Well, I’m on the road to Munford, TN this morning to install a new kitchen sink for my youngest daughter.

She wanted it done before her baby shower on Saturday. I told her today was the only option because a cold front was moving in on Thursday. :tu:
