Sitting at my folks place yesterday and 5 bucks cruised across their driveway. It is a small 8 acres and I have one acre right where they crossed. Yes, I'll be in a tree up there come fall, but I didn't think I'd see any good bucks. One was a dandy and maybe he'll stick around. Tons of cover, browse and oaks all around this place and it holds deer year round. I've also seen several black bears since staying here over the last 6 weeks, including one that is probably over 300 pounds. He was about 20 yards from me one evening and I'm not sure who was startled more. Never had a desire to hunt bear, but I may change my mind this year. I don't even know if there is a season for bear in this part of the state and need to check. I might be the new Brett this year now that he moved to MO. LOL
Dammit. Didn't even know this thread existed? Sitting on my cabin deck in my Hanes and loafers. Pizza on the grill and a cold "beers' Got Dee Snyders H,o, H cranked. Feeling No pain. Lol. Can wait till season starts so I can run my bill$ up again following this thread.
Looking back, I can reflect on on how things go. It's now 9p.m.. sitting on the deck and still light out. Beautiful evening. Come nov/Dec, it'll be dark/cold and will be sitting by the wood stove. That week around Christmas gets me down with lack of daylight.
You need to be more observant, like @cls74 . Someone can ask a question about something that is happening or has happened and he can post the link to the thread addressing it in 45 seconds or less.
CLS just pointed me to your moving to Missouri thread! I’ve actually been looking at houses west of st louis too. Eureka, pacific, Ballwin area. Whereabouts are you looking?
Oh snap!!!! Hope you find/found some good stuff Brett! I'm taking a ride tomorrow to my hunting grounds. I'll be bringing the E-bike to check out some areas and to time how long it takes me to get to a few of the spots. I woke up this morning, went outside with the dogs and smelled the smell. No, not dogsh!t, but the smell of mid summer that flips the switch for me.
We are living about 10 min west of St Louis. Crazy man I was just in Eureka and Pacific this afternoon. Walked a ton. Crazy varying terrain. 100 feet shear drops to river bottoms. I sweated a few lbs off and walked miles. Quickly identified I will not be able to access the spot I want from the one side of the river. Will have to kayak in a short distance or it'll take me over a 1 hr walk in that crazy cover and terrain. Marked 3 spots I wanted to scout. Spot 1 was a bust. Spot 2 I marked and I found a massive buck bed and tracks within 40 yards. Crazy! Will take a kayak in there to test run the set up in next couple weeks. Absolutely massive track. Extremely long.
Took a few shots in the garage at 5 yards this afternoon. Heat index was 108F this afternoon, didn't feel like shooting outside. Decided it was time to start touching up broadheads. Also, hit a mileage milestone on my jeep yesterday.
