Been awhile since I have posted/contributed on the forums, just a season I would much rather forget on my end. I absolutely loathe group texts. I give my family hell for including me in a group text every year around the holidays. While I really did want to protect the privacy of my new cell # as the reason, this post makes me smile knowing I didn't cave to Tony's peer pressuring on the Captains group Damn near got me a deer this past Friday morning, instinct and good brakes prevented it. Had 5 crossing the highway on the way to work, went from 64 to 15 in about 2 seconds
Lol , All season I couldn't get a doe near me to shoot. Yesterday on the way home coming up hill 2 doe. Standing on the side of road. I stopped 20 ft away and had a chat with them. They just stood there listening to me. Were still standing there as I said , watch the traffic and have a nice spring. I hope they remember I told them I had just bought 64#'s of seed to plant for them to eat this summer.
I’m set up for the afternoon. I’m a whopping 12 feet off the ground and I’m about 16 yards from my camera I put out last time I was here. It’s crazy thick and if I don’t see or hear them coming it’s gonna be a very quick encounter. Well, if anything comes through, that is.
No deer sighted this evening. That’s okay. Since I put the camera out there I’ve only had pics of afternoon movement a couple of times. Mornings and mid-day seem to be better there. It’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow so I most likely won’t get back out until Thursday morning.
Whelp, my plans for a goose hunt with my brother on Friday are in jeopardy. Outfitter called last night and said he is having to cancel, last week's flooding with rainstorms have pushed the birds out of his area. Not sure if that means that whole area of the state, or just the properties he can guide on. We are getting a full refund, so at least he is being honest. We are scrambling to check with other outfitters to see if anyone has room and a decent amount of birds.
Found today out shed hunting. Looks juicy! Sent from my SM-G990U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Well crap. What I was afraid was going to happen happened. Big lead doe showed up right in this opening at 15 yards with no warning. I managed to get my bow in my hand and get my release on and I was promptly picked off. She bounced into the thicket and blew a few times. The does behind her bounced the other way into my scent stream and blew also. This is the only tree to get in here and it just doesn’t work. It’s too close, too low and too open. I need to move to a different spot.
Should have told him if he was in a saddle, he could hunt any tree! Haha Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I’m set up for the afternoon. I moved 80 yards east and set up where the old “dim” road hits the open woods. If you look close in the upper right quarter of the first pic you can see the sun shining on the road where I was this morning. In the second pic the straight tree in the middle is the tree I was in when I missed the big buck a few weeks ago. He was working a scrape by one of the small cedars to the right of that tree. I should have came here to start with. If anything comes from the west on that road my Tactacam should let me know it’s coming.
