Man that's tough. The way you described it, I thought you'd really be in them

Me too. When walking out I cut across a winter wheat field for about 200 yards. Covered in poop and tracks. Must be night feeding area and bedding farther away. Definitely a place of interest for sheds in the next couple months.

Thanks! Sliced the whole bottom of her heart off. I could see the blood trail for 15 yards ahead of me the last 20 yards.

I'm heading in. On a different property tonight.

Plan is scout for a couple hours and setup on bedding according to sign. Plan to walk the private/public line down the crop fields. Look for tracks and follow back in public to bedding. Let's see what I find.

I'm up! Bumped a large body deer on the way in. It heard me and think it stood up. I spotted it right away. I waited a few minutes because I wasn't sure it was even a deer. I took one step and it walked off up the thicket. I decided to do a big loop and setup on other side of same thicket, I know of a nice trail out the back of it. I'm with in 40 yards of this trail and spot another deer. It hears me but didn't see me this time. It just walks off back into the thick. Takes me 30 minutes to go about 40 yards to the tree I need to be in. Not much for selection in here. But I'm up.

This is the stuff I'm hunting in. A sea of saplings. Biggest being 6". I found a 12" maple just on the edge covering 2 trails. IMG_20230124_141240_01.jpg

I made it back to Wattensaw WMA today. I was planning on heading this way tomorrow morning but they’re calling for heavy snow at home tonight so I decided to leave this morning.

It’s raining now and I don’t have a stand out for the morning so I’m going to sleep in as much as I can and get on stand around mid-day tomorrow.

Anything is possible anytime, of course, but right now I believe the afternoons are good and the mornings are not so good. As the weekend gets closer the days will get better.

This is all based on moon phase, and the weekend should be what they refer to as a “red moon”. The moon will be overhead and underfoot at prime time, both in the morning and the evening.

They’re forecasting rain here Saturday and Sunday though.

Just had something move thru the thicket in front of me. About 50 yards. Couldn't tell what it was, just it was bigger then a squirrel. Keep getting little flashes of fur.

Just had some sticks break behind me in opposite direction. Once again to thick to see. Good sign things are moving!

Get out of the river bottoms for the weekend and find some hills.

Well damn! Just had 3 bucks work up to me. Got picked off by the first one. The 2nd was the biggest and didn't know what was going on. I pulled back and shot. I missed. He turned completely around before my arrow even got to him. Missed right in front of him. This late season is so hard! These deer are on pins and needles. They were at 15 and 20 yards.

The first one didn't stay on the trail. Of course he walked almost directly to me. He happened to look up at me, then put his head back down. Then did a double take and whipped his head up. Like what the He'll is that! Definitely freaked him out! Haha
