I don’t think this is that spot. Remember when we parked on the road and walked in on an old railroad tram? I rode my bike a little over a mile and a quarter down that road.
Add four does to the deer seen this sit. The wind is going to be out of the NE this afternoon instead of the NW so when I come back in I need to move more like 80 yards west.
I guessed wrong then. I was thinking of a spot south of the interstate. But, I know where you are now...
I was about to get down. I had put my quiver on my bow, put it in the holder, put my pack on and was about to un-cinch the strap on my climber. I took one last look around and a big 8 point was coming. I grabbed my bow, nocked an arrow and got ready, but he didn’t give me a shot. Never got closer than 40 in cover. He trotted across downwind with no issues so the thermals must be working. I set my stuff back up and I’ll stay a while. That’s four bucks this sit, three of which were great ones.
First off good luck today everyone. I told my buddy he should hunt a new area we can hunt. Hung a camera but wasnt seeing much. Partially because camera needed adjusted and partially i think because its later in the year. But… i just had a good feeling about this spot and knew eventually a good buck would cruise through. With the temp dump we had last night i told my buddy he needed to go hunt this spot. Hes been struggling this year and hasnt released an arrow yet. Not that he hasnt had chances to just nothing he wanted to shoot. He decided against the new spot and went down south to another area which is actually really good. So he didnt make a bad call but i did get to send him this pic this morning. Would have been maybe a 15 yd chip shot from the tree we had scoped out behind this cam. Haha. Never fails.
Interesting NC deer harvested...a sika in NC https://www.carolinasportsman.com/f.../nc-hunter-kills-sika-buck-in-kings-mountain/
I have got to get down and get out of here. The wind is shifting and the thermals are starting to fail. That four point caught my scent. Thankfully he didn’t blow.
What state are you in now. It’s getting cold here so I wonder if that tail end of the front has them moving. Guessing your in Missouri?
I didn’t see your post until now. I got down and out because the wind had changed and I wasn’t prepared to move then and sit the rest of the day. I’ll head back before too long, move the stand and if I don’t kill one this evening I’ll go prepared for an all day sit tomorrow.
Felt like -18 this morning. Currently feels like -11. Little buddy heater would sure be nice! Had another nice one stroll through last night giving us some hope. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He is basically due east of Little Rock. The further south and east you go in the state, the later the rut. NW Arkansas ruts last two weeks of October through first week of November. Central and SW part of the state, usually the first three weeks of November. SE Arkansas mid-November through mid-December. Secondary ruts cycle through about a month behind those time frames. If you time it right and travel through the state accordingly, you can chase rut activity for almost 8 weeks straight.
I don't know if @LittleChief knows it or not, but a legit 200" buck was killed during the muzzleloader hunt in mid October on one of the private land inholdings of the WMA he is hunting. It is a big WMA at a little over 15,000 acres.
