Yesterday Son went home picked up his son and went back down to camp for a hunt. They had three nice doe come into range and grand son talked dad into taking one of them. So great to see son getting father ,son hunting time in. 5 more years before River can be the shooter with dad at side.
Balmy 12 degrees this morning. Very quiet except for the turkeys waking up. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I guess I’m just not meant to gun hunt this year. I finally had does walk in. One got to 12 yards and gave me a broadside shot. I had already pulled the hammer back on my 45-70 so I put the crosshair on her and pulled the trigger. “Click”. She flinched but stayed put and I’m sitting here thinking “what the heck?” So I pull the hammer back again, aim and “click”. She just stood there on alert. As quietly as I could I slowly worked the lever, fished the round out, pushed the next round in. I closed the action and she bounced out to 40 yards. I aimed and squeezed the trigger. “Click”. Then I looked at the gun and the stupid “lawyer safety” was on. What genius decided a rifle with a half cock safety needed a button safety? I pushed that safety off and the doe was standing at 75 yards quartering away. I aimed, pulled the trigger and the gun roared. The doe ran out to about 125 yards, stood there and trotted off like nothing was wrong. I’m pretty sure I missed, but I don’t know how. If this weren’t such a beautiful gun I’d throw it from the stand right now.

Here's my view for the morning. Hunting 730 till 12. I suspect that is bedding over there and there is a ton of briars behind me. Hoping something comes out late morning to feed. Wind is supposed to pick up to gust of 30mph so that might kill any movement.
