Just realized I left my arrow in the woods yesterday. Had killed 2 deer with it this year. Now it's a mile and a half deep. Might be it's final resting place until January. Lol. Darn it!
Tell ya what. For myself, the best part of this thread is reading about you all hunt. Certain people have it SO easy and some have to endure so many obstacles just to SEE a deer. Fawn/doe/spike/monster. Lots of encouragement. Love it.
Hah, I was literally just telling my cousin I was gonna strap Fergie to the hood of my Expedition for the 3 hrs drive to IN processor tomorrow. Normally I'd just tarp him and put him on the hitch rack, but 6-8" snow + salted MI roads = seasoning I don't want to eat.
Nothing for us today. No deer in our section of the woods. Getting 4-8" of snow overnight and until mid day. The kids and I are all going out tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully see something.
My bad. Thought a laugh could help. Get back after it and don't hesitate. Hopefully he won't be far. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I will admit, I've gone back just to get my arrow. Do it every year. In the moment my mind isn't thinking straight. I always feel stupid when I go back and it's laying right there in plain sight. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Fred, you didn't blow anything......dang it Holt, Fred you didn't do anything wrong. You were trying to up your odds of a successful shot. Good ethics in my book.
Freezer bucks can be the most satisfying... Grilled heart, inner straps, and a potato/onion hash- my cousin said its the best meal he ever had. The fact that I know he gave up an evening sit to give me a layup...least I could do is give the sumbitch a great meal. I love that dude. That's what Deer Camp is all about. I miss our dads. They just can't handle the cold of November anymore.
It's crazy how deer camp meals just seem to taste so good. Don't know what it is but when someone is making fresh backstraps at camp, I will hang around just a little longer. I find any 2 1/2 year old deer to be just about perfect. Get great lean meat and yield more then from just a doe. If your a meat hunter, can never go wrong. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Neither me nor my cousin have kids. We're both Only Sons. Only time I ever regret not having kids is when we hunt. Our name and this family tradition dies with us.
Thanks man. I guessed him at 35. When he left I ranged it, exactly 35. I keep picturing that nocturnal blasting into his rib cage. With these WNW winds, it’s almost impossible to attack that spot. I’m gonna hit the opposite end of the property tomorrow morning, maybe I’ll catch him or another cruising. This one’s gonna sting for a while
I came home late Friday night from Missouri after hunting with @LittleChief. My wife asked how it felt to get so close to killing what would have been my best buck with a bow and knowing I blew it before getting the shot off. Told her I was going to have worse nightmares about that than the things she said to me while giving birth to our last son. She didn’t have an epidural for the one. I found out how truly terrifying she has the potential to be.
