After the borderline 6, I saw 3 bucks chasing a doe in the neighboring field. The doe slipped away and the bucks stood around circling, posturing. I let out a snort wheeze, couple doe bleats. A minute later 2 of them took off after the doe, the other was coming right to me. He was a nice 7 point, I think a 3.5 year old but again, borderline. He stood broadside at 45, I wasn’t comfortable with the shot.. Had a fork horn pass right under me too. Ended up being a great afternoon. Confidence level rising!
I am going to wait until tomorrow morning to look. Probably around 930. One of my buddies is hunting in the direction the buck walked off to so I will let him have a morning hunt before searching. That will be about 16 hours. Hopefully not too long
Had a 100" 8pt step out of the wood line just 10yds to my right. I think he saw me turn my head or maybe just smelled me, even though he was up wind. He bolted to 40yds and never stopped to look back. Was a cool, close quarters encounter. Nothing else for me.
I wish I had plopped down in the first spot that I had picked. Would have given me a 30yd broadside shot at the fella.
Thanks for all the support guys. This was bad news, good news, good news. Bad, I didn't get him, good news, pretty much looks like he's still looking for love, more good news I'm still hunting and since I got my doe out of the way I can concentrate on nothing except killing a big boy!!!!!
Resilience is the most important thing in this game. Keep head on straight and dont let it break you if you screw up. We all screw up. Good luck tomorrow man!
Yes, although it's a disappointment, I've been hunting for 43 years, bow hunting 26 years. Seen many ups and downs over the years. This thing we call hunting is not for the weak minded faint of heart. It's what we live for brothers. Even though I don't know any of you personally, we all share in each other's elations and disappointments. Wouldn't want this life any other ways. Thank you brothers/sisters, I love you all!!!!!
0230, final day of hunting these woods for me, Internship, school tomorrow and Shotgun season opens on Wednesday. If it's brown, it's down!! Good luck y'all!!
Preparing for sub 20 degree pain and a mile and half walk in today. I'd love to see some rut action. Totality of my Nov rut action consists of 1 cruising 4pt.
28 degrees this morning with north wind. Headed out in a few minutes. Good luck this morning. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Thanks brother, same for you!! just got setup…cold, very effing cold 15 mph NW wind. My rut sightings consist of seeing one doe. Let’s hope that changes today!! Good luck all you killers!! We can warm up by dragging out a buck!
Cold snow and about to head out, legal is 6:30 I have a half hour walk to stand. Too cold to stay an hour before legal...half hour is more doable. Good luck guys and send some my way please, I need it.
