I had a decent day in the stand even though it started out terrible. I saw those 2 smaller bucks in the morning, then nothing til a little after 3, a nice doe but no shot, a decent 8 point at 4, 2 doe's and a fawn at 4:20 a different 8 at 4:40 and another 8 at 5:00. I almost launched an arrow at one of those does but I just wasn't comfortable enough with the shot. First day, didn't want to force and possibly just wounding her so I passed. So 5 different bucks today, no shooters for me, and 4 does. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
I shot a descent buck tonight. It was really dark and it happened quick idk if the shot was fatal or not. I heard a loud smack I think I hit him high shoulder at 19 yards. I didn’t track because I was unsure. The arrow didn’t have alot of blood but the wet weeds wiped alot of it off after it passed through him. There is grease and pink blood on the arrow. It would be my first bow buck wish me luck pls. I had this happen to me 2 or 3 years ago if you guys remember
So the hits keep coming. Decide to hit the new blind on back line. 100yards from It and I catch two big flags running away from it. OK. I'll walk past the other new blind and go to Rivers blind that sits over looking the neighbours swamp bedding. That is where the two flags went. Maybe they'll swing backup. 10 mins in I look down at old reliable 1 stand. Where I really wanted to go but rain was in the forecast so blind was the choice. A beautiful wide 8 pt is walking past the stand at 10 yards. He had literally followed my path down the hill until I turned to Rivers blind. He went right to swamp bedding stopping just once to dog shake the rain off him..it was pouring. Not another deer seen. Honestly it was a good hunting day. Saw way more deer could have shot the 4pt. Getting closer, getting closer. P.S. son saw the 10 at camp. Told his Dad , biggest buck ever at camp. Camps had a few Great deer over the years...
Well the afternoon was interesting to say the least. With about an hour left I had a wide 6pt go by at 70yds and he never looked back. With about 30min left I had two 8pts pop out at about 55yds. One was a basket 8, the other was about a 110" 8pt that I would have shot. They walked ro 45yds and made a hard right. They circled around me and stayed at 45yds. I saw an opening in the brush. When the basket 8 went through I ranged it at 45yds. I drew back and when the larger 8pt went through I stopped it, put my 40pin on it's back and released. The arrow sailed right underneath him, clean miss. I found the arrow after dark just to be sure. About 3-4min after I shot at him I heard a thwack. I later found out that the farm owners grandson shot at the same 8pt, 20yds, thought he had a good hit. I helped him track for an hour and a half. Blood started out good but quickly coagulated and then stopped. Think he hit high. Tracking dog coming tomorrow
I didn't post from the stand this afternoon because I accidentally left my phone in the truck. Well that was a new experience, being totally focused on the reason I'm out there. I didn't even know what time it was. I had to guess on when legal light ended. Anyway, all I saw was a small scrubby buck and five does. C'mon big boys, where you at?!?!? I’m finally getting some solid tree time. I have 5 days to hit it hard. Highs are in the 40s all week and I’m pumped. The north winds are killing some of my spots, and I’m sure there’s plenty of lockdown going on, but I’m gonna be all over this property like a madman. Good luck all!
Off the forum for a day and I blows up! Just caught up, congrats all the killers today. Some great bucks and doe! Headed out in the morning, supposed to be in the 20's. Been spitting snow off and on all day. Farmer friend called this morning about a beaver problem, went to look and plan some trapping and a nice 8 pt walks up to within 10 yds! I think they know when you're not hunting!
