10 min before last light I hear the sounds of a big buck coming in perfect. 30 and closing at an angle is a giant buck. Upwind. He has no idea I'm there. Fing coyote starts chasing him and he runs by at 20 yds and won't stop. Coyote sees me and bugs out. Buck stands at 40 and light is lost. Giant buck dude. Ughhhhh

Ok guys here's the deal. Wind is perfect for a hunt at camp. Now as mentioned trunk is rusted out and no one would fix it. I'm not selling because everything else is good and it only has 74 thou. on it. Besides I rarely drive.
Well took afternoon off as well to make as trunk ,screw them. I went with cutting the redwood so it would wedge against the stable trunk walls about an inch above the trunk liner. I did this width bumper to window then cut same to fit over those wheel well to wheel all tapping them to a tight fit cover that with two pieces of plywood that happened to fit perfect then rubber mat followed by my deer liner camp tarp.
Now I can get up at 4 get there by 5 :30 park on the road up the hill so I don't wake the camp neighbour walk the 1/2 mile to the stand. Wind should be at my left and face the two directions the deer come in from . Last hunt there got me a broken racked buck. Hoping for either doe or buck it would be great for both. .pretty sure trunk "fix" would handle it.

One of the funniest things I've ever witnessed deer do happened last night. I'll wait till I can fire up the laptop tho. Had a blast there. Thanks again @LittleChief for having me out. @cantexian and @Countersg , hope to see yall next time.

    Damn bro....that is rough.

BUT...as a consolation, you are doing everything right, all of your homework is paying off, you are in the right place at the right time for that encounter because you know what you are doing.........eventually all of the pieces are going to land right for you

There are lease cabins out here on this federal land. Well I parked on the side of the road. I guess a person leasing one of these houses didn't like that I was doing that and told me I had no right to park there. The conversation Was interesting. He told me he was correcting me by saying that I could not park on that land and I told him it is federal land and I am most certainly allowed to park and I have read all the regulations. He told me the cops told him he has a right to run people off that land because it is too close to his house. I told him lucky those officers don't have concurrent jurisdiction on Federal property and probably shouldn't be Meeting me in the dark with an attitude. By the time I did my verbal judo we shook Hands and he said I could park by his house even though I don't need his permission. What a freaking year.

    Well, hell.

So a couple of buddies pheasant hunted some ground of ours that I haven't deer hunted this year and saw a really nice buck. So I went out tonight to an old latter stand my dad put up years ago. 30 mins in a very nice buck steps out of the thicket 60 yds to my east. Wide, heavy rack, hard to tell much else. Beds down there for the neck hour and a half, see him stand up once. Doesn't care about rattles. 5 o'clock chases a doe out and it's on, chases over to 100 yds in front of me. She then turns and comes right back to the side of my stand, maybe 10 yds from me. He slowly follows her, and when he steps behind a tree at 30 I draw. He works his way in to 20 and finally turns giving me a quartering shot. I meh and he freezes, I let it fly. He steps back right as I do and I hear a low crack. My arrow is in him pretty deep, looks to be 12 inches plus of penetration. He stumbles, then bounds of 50 yds and then stand in the alfalfa. Doe chases after him and then heads to some rows of standing corn, and he slowly follows. Can see my lighted knock in him the whole way. Looks to be maybe 10" off the deer. Not much blood at site of impact (not surprising). Shooting full metal jackets with grim reaper hybrids. My eyes say dead deer but now I'm really questioning it. Nicest buck I have seen on hoof in several years. Been about an hour and 10 mins, think I will go look at the blood in the alfalfa field in 20 then make some decisions. Should be able to see that lighted knock in the bailed crp....

Wish I would have brought my thermal. Supposed to rain at 0600....

Thats quite a bit of penetration. Im thinking you have dead deer to find. How are temps where youre at? Any reason to rush it?
Edit: nevermind i see the rain coming.
