I might have missed it, but how did the deer react when hit/after the hit?

He just wheeled around and took off the opposite way he came. He is definitely hit. I followed blood for about 20yds and stopped. I want to give him plenty of time

Not sure what to think, does seem strange. My thinking is he was on a dead run, so maybe a fatal hit? Hopefully you punched thru and hit off side shoulder, which most likely a dead deer. I see white hair, so either low belly line hit or brisket. That's the part I'm not liking.

Can you get your buddy to help again?

Ok guys this is bizzaro and kinda embarrassing but a warning tale.
So last year I released a bolt at a turkey from a 16' tree stand in the green area next to buck bedding. You can see that area in above pic. The stand is in wood line above that. So I watched it go low ,30 yrds. and the turkey popped up flew a bit then walked through woods clucking and putting. I thought I shot under it and actually did. I looked for that bolt for months and months. Even took out a hard rake to try and scratch it up.
This morning I'm scanning in that direction from stand on other side of bedding. When I notice bright green up in a tree. When I left I went over to see this 12' up.
Mind you I had ranged the turkey. I ranged back from tree to where I shot the bolt got 65 yrds. And 20 ' to the left through a bunch of trees. That bolt apparently ricochet off a rock shot back up into the air traveling another 65 and sticking in tree. I was so busy watch the turkeys reaction I hadn't seen what actually happened. Where this bolt landed is so bizarre. This is just a heads up for those shooting close to buildings or in urban settings . This is a lower end cross bow. That bolt traveled 95 yrds and split the tree a bit. I'll have to take out sticks to retrieve it. Now I can work that ground next spring. I didn't this year due to new tractor tires. I would never have thought to look up in the trees ever. I saw that bolt hit low apparently under turkey.

2 bucks just followed a doe into range. Little guy was at 10 yards and a 125" 8 was in the thick stuff at 25 yards.

Rage crossbow x 100 grains. They are what I have used since I started with the crossbow 5 years ago. Seriously, I've shot 8 or so deer since I started using the crossbow, and with the exception of this year, all but one went down within 30yds. I'm just at a complete loss for what's going on.

It looks like white hair, could it be low and hit the opposite leg? or did it look higher?

I'm going home, which is over an hours drive each way. I'm going to get my UTV and stop and pick him up on the way back up here. I want there to be about 6-8 hours before we start looking

What angle was his body? Like @Holt and @MONGO I'm not liking the white hair but that could be sternum/ offside armpit which could be good.

Did you take any pics of the blood? Asking so the group can analyze.
