Heading to MD in the morning, camera on the plot has been really slow lately so I’m debating pushing into the woods about 50 yards further where I have seen deer cross an opener area… no idea what the options are for trees in there

I can't even believe I'm thinking this but...., I took a 3 week "rutcation" starting yesterday and was gonna hunt till about Nov 15th.
It's way to warm now and forecast is maybe 70* early next week.
I think I'm gonna head back and get some work done next week?
I have ZERO desire to sit in a stand in temps that warm.

I did that one year, started off as a foggy morning in the 40's, had a 1 1/2 8 point walk the script first light. Had high hopes after that. Then the afternoon hit and a leopard frog was hopping across the grass in front of me. Was upper 70's and the rest of the week was more of the same amd even forecast warmer. Climbed down and actually scared some turtles off a log in the pond on the walk up. We'd already had a couple freezes at this point.

Went into work and talked them into letting me come back and take it the following week.

Every morning the rest of that week started with dense fog and never lifted, never got out of the 50's and lower 60's the rest of the week as a result. It was a miserable week of work, and totally my kind of luck

Yeah the temps suck but deer are still going to do deer things at this time of year.

Nothing for me this evening. Saw 3 on the way in. Had all kinds of action just about 50 yards south of me, but so thick I couldn't see what it was. Could hear some chasing and scraping going on. Think take morning off and hunt tomorrow evening.

A bunch of new scrapes showed up on my place since yesterday! They must have worn themselves out last night cause I didn't see much tonight! One small Cruzer at 6:25.

Spent this evening rehydrating about 2 1/2 pounds of over dried jerky, I actually think it might work.

I did some searching and seen things like pouring boiling water over it, or adding celery and/or carrots in the bag and it would absorb the water from them. Didn't like any of the ideas as the first woupld likely dilute the flavor big time and the latter might transfer the flavor into the jerky.

So what I was wanting to do was put the jerky back in the round dehydrator trays and place the stack on top of a stockpot with simmering water. Tried a sample batch first using a screen that fits over a set of pans I have for steaming veggies and stuff. Put it on the stove and steamed for about 15 minutes. Worked so well I did the rest that way sealing in a zip loc after each batch.

Letting it cool then will pat dry and put in a dry zip loc. Can't really speak to flavor loss, if any, yet as it tastes like eating it straight off the dehydrator, warm and somewhat flavorless. Always better when cooled down, kinda like next day chilli

It's real, but it's not going to be reversed by humans.

Won't speak anymore to it on this thread, belongs in water cooler topics.

Do you run any cams or just go in based on sign and hope it's going to be a mature buck making the sign?

    Nope, 100%.
These warm temps will almost completely shut down "shooting light" movement.

I agree to an extent, bucks are not rut crazed yet, but a few early does will have bucks moving somewhere. Just have to be "there" which is the tricky part

I'm guessing you have permanent stand sites for the most part and have grown to know them and weather over the years. I was the same way on the property I lost only if it was late first week of November would I not care and have to hunt the temps regardless.

    Way south, Jackson Co

No other deer sightings for me. Saw a big yote and an armadillo at last light. Still bummed about that big doe, I was already counting the chops
Probably hunt for a few hours in the morning, supposed to be a light rain, scattered all day. I’m putting up the tree umbrella and hunkering down.
Then hang a lock on stand for the rut trip, retrieve a camera that’s been sitting since last season. And put up 2 more cameras and hunt the last few hours.
If the rain starts/stops all day, anything can happen
    Good luck!
