It's gone quite. Not sure what he is were right now. Still a good chance he comes this way. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Something pretty cool about going in by one's self a good distance in the pitch black. Get to the exact tree you scouted and picked out, then kill. KILL
This see through blind is messing with my eyes. They focus on the mesh and not the woods around me. It's gonna be a long sit!
It’s supposed to have a GPS chip, but I know when I don’t have a signal it’s not nearly accurate enough for my tastes, especially when there is a leaf canopy. I’m sure it’s fine for navigating more open country, but when I’m walking a half mile through big woods in the dark with no roads or trails I want it to be pin-point accurate so I walk straight to my tree without fumbling around shining a light all over creation looking for it.
Have you tried saving a map of the area for “offline” mode use? (On-x). I have to do that in my elk spots and many other area where I get zero service. It’s accurate enough that I can mark my atv and wander aimlessly chasing elk, then find my way back to it easily.
Back in the tree I sat in this morning. I hope the buck from Thursday night makes a repeat performance.
I do enjoy that. When I pick a tree I do take three highly reflective push pins and put them on a small tree close to the one I’m going to climb. I put them at varying angles so if I’m off by a bit I can still see at least one. When I get to within 50-75 yards I can pick them out and zero in. It sure beats a trail of tacks or flagging tape advertising exactly where I am and how to get there.
Man, you miss a day or two and you are 10 pages behind. In the stand tonight. Sunny, 65, no wind at all. Sun feels like 80 on me. Dry, should hear anything from a mile away as crunchy as the leaves are. Good luck evening hunters.
Now that I have caught up to the days events.... I'm up on home ground tonight. Our south wind (end of Oct?!) has me sitting in an early season stand. It's kind of sketchy as there are no leaves for back cover. Will also need to be aware of my shadow as well.
I haven’t tried that. Maybe I should, but like I said, around here it’s pretty much dense forest, and I don’t feel like it’s accurate enough for me to be precise. Even when I have a weak signal and have the map up I’ve missed my tree by 30 yards using OnX. I’d does get a lot better when the leaves drop, but early season in the big woods I don’t trust it that much.
Just got my stand and sticks packed togetger for the final time. Repurchased the XOP transport system and finally got it mostly fifured out, without hunting gear on so still need another adjustment. Advertised weight 3lbs a stick, 12lb stand, 3 pounds xop pack. 27lbs. Actual weight 32.2lbs
Canopy could be the issue, I know with my phone and hanheld GPS both lose accuracy with leaves on, never really used them in the winter to test a difference. Usually in Spring when trees have leafed out. GPS crapped out a few years back, may have to pick up another at some point. I'm pretty much stuck hunting public for the foreseeable future, so be a worthwhile investment for sure.
I’m in for the first sit of the season. It’s pretty damn warm. At least there’s a nice consistent breeze. Tomorrow is supposed to rain all day, but I’m hunting anyways and I want to hang a stand and put up a couple cameras. Hopes aren’t very high but feels good to be in the woods again. I’m a nervous wreck and my head is on a swivel, which really sucks when you’re dealing with neck pain! Anything except fawns and 1.5 year old bucks is getting razors through the vitals! Good luck all
Something is coming in from my left. I can only see 20 yards in that direction, so they will be on me fast!
