Feels great here today. Actually was working in a hoody. Got 4 spots finished. Some have grape vines for liking branches and some have ponderosa pine for thrashing. And the stands guarding them. The last pic is what the vast omajorityf my land lookso like. Pure bedding cover.
Headed out shortly to our destination. Might as well sit and wait at the spot instead of our hotel room. Shoot the bows and hang out for a few hours before heading in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good luck MN. Way to stick to it LC, rain or not. Pulled camera cards just now. My wife is on the computer, it's driving me insane. I want to know what's on the cards. I have to be patient thou. Uggggggggghh
Cool front there today Jake? Good luck. Just checked a cam. He finally showed up. Knew he would. Looks like he lost a few inches from last year but I don't care. He's a big old brute.
Yep cold front came in yesterday. Was 95 on Thursday and 75 yesterday/today. Up in the high ground it was 39 degrees this morning. Truly felt like fall. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Much cooler here as well. Just dug 2 post holes. Gonna trailer up and go for a cruise and see if I can find a couple 4/5" Dia. Popple trees for rubbing post. Getting stuff done today. Feels good!
productive camera pull!!!!!!!!! no horns to say much, 1 spike, lots of does and fawns eating some kind of nuts, beach nuts i think!!!!!!!!!!! where the does are the bucks will show. going to put a climber at that camera area
Top ping is where we are parking. Bottom ping is 4 large white oaks. 150”+ was there last night and other deer there this morning when we drove by. Perfect SE wind tonight. My buddy gets to go after the big one since he gave me the good spot yesterday. I’ll set up more to the north on some other oaks. The plan is fool proof. Just need deer to cooperate. Rain drove me out of the woods this morning. It's been sunny and hot since I got back to camp. I'm about to go and hang another stand but I don't think I'll get to hunt it this evening. Last I looked the weather says 90% chance of thunderstorms at 6:00 pm. Ugh. Oh well. I did run to Wally World and pick up a cheap set of camo Frogg Toggs rain gear and some cheap rubber boots. Maybe I can hunt until the heavens open up and make it back to camp without getting soaked. I don't have any way to dry my gear here.
I went and found a spot for my second stand. It's in a small patch of woods I've only sat twice, and I missed a nice velvet 8 point there a few years ago. I walked on in along Mayfield Creek and found one heck of a creek crossing going into a standing corn field. There is a major trail crossing the creek and it intersects a main trail following the creek. It looks like a good spot. Now I just need the weather to let me hunt. At least the rain this afternoon will wash my scent away from both spots.
I just check the weather again. It's going to storm starting about 6:00. Maybe before. I was planning on going out and sitting until the deluge started, but I just looked at the weather again and the wind is going to be out of the ENE now. That's terrible for both stands I put up. Figures. I guess I'll sit around the camper this evening. Someone post something interesting and give me something to do.
Poplar is the correct name, us Norwegians in MN call em poppler Alas, 50 miles and non found. May have to use basswood.
Chief if you got a shower in your camper it will work to dry wet clothes. Small desk fan hooked up to move air situated under clothes hanging in shower has worked for me in the past. Just close the door an crack the roof vent.
Yep, I have a full bathroom in here. That's not a bad idea since I have two fans also. I now know what to do if I get wet.
I set up on a oak ridge/pinch point. Property owners fence/4 wheeler trail in front of me and 20 oaks around me. Not dropping a ton of acorns but they are dropping. This is officially my first hang and hunt on public ground. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
