2 times this week I’ve gotten shooters on this cam 150yds from where I’ve been sitting on the corn 20-30 minutes after I’ve got out. Need to figure this out… they haven’t entered the field where I’m at, but they are in this little chunk looking for does it appears. Just a matter of time until they coming checking the does where I’m at… right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This time next week I will be prepping for my first morning sit, of many to come, on public land with a bow in early November. What a journey this year has been. From learning I will not be hunting the land I have for the past 15 years to seeking a career change to ggiving up on hunting for a end if year/new year vacation in FL. The first was expected at some point, but unexpected when it happened, the second looked promising at first, but realizing the new wage and my current employer giving out 2 cost of living increases I ultimately had to decline the new job. Turned out to be the right decision as accepting a promotion last week has me starting next week off as a supervisor. The last was wioed out, literally, by hurricane Ian as it all but eliminated anything on Ft. Myers Beach, FL and that 2 week vacation turned into a 1 week(10 days) public land rutcation. Looking forward to both the endeavors in these next two chapters of my life. Hoping I succeed at both.
Jim I am sorry to hear about that buck. Been there done that .....every day is getting better. Keep at it.
Need to move closer to were there coming from. You might get them in the field before day light on a bad weather day, but for the most part they probably know they don't need to be there in day light. The later in the night will be more deer, so that's when they want to be there. Of course there is a chance a hot doe comes in, who knows we're they will go. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Had a blast with my daughter tonight. She did get bored and a little cold but she still had fun. We saw 3 small bucks. One had those huge nasty warts all over it. The one on his face was half ripped off and dangling probably from sparring which we watched him do with the bigger 5 point. After they worked off we got down little before last light but thats ok she was ready to go.
Yellow is where they are showing up and blue is my stand. Cut corn all around the woods. No real areas to set up in there except right on the camera. It’s thick. Ears open to opinions! I might just get my stand in there by the camera. That was my plan once the field is tilled. Had bucks in that little area last year heavy during the rut. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looking back on the hunt tonight… I’ve never seen deer so confused in my life. Between my scent, the coyote, and horny scrubs pushing does around not a single one knew what the hell to do. Out of the field, back in, out of the field, get chased, smack your fawn, run from buck, eat corn, out of the field, back in the field. Just chaos. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They weren't confused, they just wanted to eat and kept getting interrupted. That sat. image you posted earlier, plan each hunt with the wind in mind. Can't remember if you are mobile or not, but looks like you have some good mature trees between your stand and the yellow. What was the wind tonight compared to last night, or what changed? Seems that patch of woods could be played with any wind, if mobile, might be a lengthy entrance having to skirt property edges and loop around for entry. Not sure which boundaries limit you. Then again, I can't decide on stand or strategy I did offer advice that worked for the only successful hunter in our special draw site, just didn't utilize it myself.
East wind will be ok for me where I’m headed. Tempted to take the rattling antlers but I probably should just sit quiet. Packing a snack or 2 hopefully I can sit till 1 then have to take my daughter to work. Ideally I’d like kill something by 730. Good luck out there this morning. We got a decent frost as well. There’s going to be be no quiet way to get on stand.
