Got in a half hour later than I wanted. Left my release in my other coat and had to turn around and go back luckily I'm only hunting a couple minutes from the house. It rained the whole way in so I got in quiet. Winds not optimal but deer can come from any direction here. Put down a fresh ground scrape and got in my tree. I'm on top of the hills highest point acorns are dropping good.
I never did find my broadhead from the buck I shot last year. Twisted it out of the shaft as he ran through the golden rod, but the arrow was intact. Crazy the things that happen after the shot.
I think the wind has blown in every direction since I've been on stand probably has to do with the cold front coming through tonight. Just a couple squirrels and birds so far.
I had a Grim Reaper CarniFour nocked this morning since I could only shoot a doe. You can see the entry wound in the pic with Elly May and I posted a pic of the exit wound. The four blade mech shredded her right lung and nicked the heart but didn't open up any heart chamber. It may have interfered with heart function, but essentially it was a one lung shot. She was getting stiff by the time we found her so she didn't live long after the shot. The reason it took so long was because I was mistaken about what she did after the shot. I could have sworn she ran straight away for a few yards and then cut right, but she ran a lot farther straight away than I thought. We were looking for blood in the wrong place and that was totally my fault. Poor Elly May was following another deer track and I kept telling Beth that the doe didn't come this way. I knew the doe was heading towards a small pond and I had to drag Elly May down that way. We stumbled across the blood trail within 20 yards of that pond and Elly May was on point then. We found her about 50 yards after that. I'm really loving the cart for the ebike. It's light enough to carry with one hand and it pulls very easily. That would have been a tough drag without a cart. The terrain is pretty rough. All's well that ends well, though, and I have a doe hanging that I need to skin and quarter.
She definitely ducked to spin and run in the opposite direction. Oh well, she's dead, hanging up and I got my arrow back.
I'm not gonna buy an ebike with a trailer, I'm not gonna buy an ebike with a trailer, I'm not gonna buy an ebike with a trailer.......
