LOVE IT! Super happy for you brother, that is a great looking buck that'd have me smiling from ear to ear!
Still have 13 trays drying, so add another 1 1/2 gallon zip locs. I'll never start a batch later than 3pm, too risky falling asleep and drying too long Didn't end up needing the 4th dehydrator but think I lost one, hopefully just overheated. Was going to send new one back as they are double the price they should be, but decided to keep it now.
Going to head out to the gun club tomorrow morning for a quick sit before work. Calling for some rain, but with the baby coming first work of November my time is extremely limited. As long a it isn’t pouring I’ll be out
The grind starts tomorrow or Tuesday. The front coming through is bringing big time winds with it. Sustained 20-30mph today. We will see what it looks like tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Congrats to the successful hunters this weekend! About 10 pages back (no service this weekend) I saw some comments about hot weather and wishing for snow. This weekend happened to be our annual Papa Ted’s deer camp weekend, where I take my son with me so he can make deer camp memories with his grandpa. He is 8 y.o. now, this was his 5th time going. We were camped at about 5000’. We didn’t shoot any deer this year, only saw does. Woke up to this Saturday morning.
That was it for me the 2 does, not sure if I’ll be going out in the morning but I’ll be following along.
Had one of the craziest hunts of my life tonight. I've had some unreal hunts in my life but this one took the cake. Absolutely nothing went right today. But I will spare all of you the full run down and just tell the short version of what happened last. I was in my stand along a bean field. It was pouring rain. Decided I was going to get down and leave. Had a fawn pop out and make its way to me. It just stood there at 10 yards for a few minutes. Then I hear a crossbow go off about 40 yards to my left. I see the bolt flying along the ground low. It hits the fawn in the spine and drops it right in front of me. It's flopping around and blood is flying ever where! It dies quickly. Then I see the hunter walk over to it. I'm less than 10 yards from him. I yell at him and he freaks out. Start apologizing and saying he know what he did and know what he shot. And says it over and over. I say it's fine, do you need a hand? He grabs his bolt and the deer and runs off. It was probably the most disgusting thing I've seen a hunter do. But it's legal and he can shoot what ever he wants. This thing was maybe 40 lbs live weight. Just a rough thing to watch. I don't understand why anyone would. If he's lucky he might get what 10 lbs? That is all and ending of a chain of bad luck today. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Holt. Might be his first deer?, so congrats to him. He may only have a day or 2 to hunt?, again, congrats to him. Wierd hunt for you. That's bizarre.
At least it died quickly. When all is said and done it accomplishes what conservation sets out to do and removes a deer from the herd. Doesn't matter what they weigh. Don't kniw the other hunters situation, could need any meat he can get. I know you know this so hopefully doesn't sound like I'm being critical of your response. Watching a spined deer is never easy, I spine shot a year and a half 6 point amd couldn't get a second shot from stand. Had to scurry down the tree and walk up on it as it tried to use its front legs and freaking out at me approaching. Couldn't imagine watching it when someone else made the shot. I can't rule out a fawn this season, meat is meat
He was part of a group of hunters that came down from Vermont. I ran into his buddies earlier in the day at another parking lot. They were acting very weird and seemed upset. Said something about being there for a few days and never seen a deer. I get it, you spend the money for out of state hunt trip and you want to be successful. But I just don't see the effort to process a fawn for the reward. In all they can shoot what they want. Probably was shot out of frustration. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
It’s small but I can’t ask for much more. I’m excited for the next 3 weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I watched a 4 to 5 foot stream of blood shot out of it like a garden hose, lasted a few secounds. Craziest thing I have ever seen. It did die real fast, maybe 30 seconds. I replied to BnB above^^^ with more detail. Bunch of guys on a out of state hunting trip that didn't see a deer all week. Probably a frustration kill. If you spend that kind of money to drive from Vermont to Maryland with 2 trucks and stay a week. I would guess it's not for the meat. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Ended up just shy of 11lbs dry weight. Probably should have been closer to 11 or a touch over had I not fallen asleep and over dried the first half.
