Busted through some sunflower fields to find some hedge rows trying to think out of the box. Some crazy big beds and found a sweet pinch point between 2 sunflower fields going to one of very few bean fields we found. We’ve glassed or scouted 40+ pieces of ground in a day and a half. Again these are small sections broken in between private and tribal lands. Time for a few beers before glassing tonight and making a game plan for tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It was some nasty thick stuff. Bet I got a face full of spider webs 20+ times. I just couldn’t believe how thick the oak flats were everywhere. Found 1 spot with an open oak flat (old pasture) but the acorns were barely falling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Setting a stand on the NW part of this piece to glass tonight (WSW wind). Basically all oaks with alfalfa. Got there late this morning and didn’t push in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Have the next 4 days off and not allowed to prescout the tract I got drawn for. Makes absolutely no sense when they want as many deer killed as possible.
According to LC in the place your bets thread, someone dropped a big one tonight... and not talking about a deuce
Literally 29 nights away from opening morning. 3 of us got drawn for this spot, without the option of scouting it's pretty much an every man for himself scenario. One of the other 2 does not hunt mornings and has never hunted inside of the woods. The other hasn't hunted in 7-8 years probably, possibly more. My current plan is opening morning kill where I mushroom hunt. Would be an awesome memory every Spring when I go mushroom hunting to relive. I know where a heavily traveled trail is, practically a dirt sidewalk as I walk it as to not trample morels. I know during the Spring deer travel it west to east as I have had several walk up on me in the mornings. I know where I have bumped them in the evenings as well, all this is no crossing the creek, sans recovery. I can walk in blindfolded and get to it if I had to. I have to kill 2 antlerless before even considering a buck, why not day 1 and 2 and then use some evenings after work to still hunt/scout. I have never been able to hunt evenings after work, now I can. Going to drive the road and look for a heavy road crossing since I can't go in the woods and try to aerial backtrack. One thing is for certain, I need to learn how to become a public land hunter or pay $15.99 a lb for beef.
So cool! Im gonna be a subscriber for sure. We should meet up one day. Im supposed to do some scouting with some guys i work with in MO
We were scoping it out for awhile. Eureka and wildwood. I really want to move to escape illinois but i have one kid who would be heartbroken to leave her friends and school. Its definitely an internal conflict lol. She struggles with social anxiety and finally is complacent with her friends and school. We mentioned moving to her and it looked like i ran over her puppy dog in front of her face. Guess ill pay $10k in property taxes for a few more years
The creek is a small river, at no point is it wadable or deadfall dammed. One is lookimg for a canoe over the weekend, the other has mentioned chest waders. I know the water most sections is 5-6' deep and others "appear" to ne 10-12'. Water is flowing but not a current, any rain changes that though. Just sent an email to DNR, redacted is just specific info for creek amd highway
My wall of shame post.... Literally everything except my bow is in my truck from my last hunt last year. I kid you not. Usually I clear out all hunting stuff in April for morels and clear out ant mushroom stuff in September for deer. I went mushroom hunting twice, 2 weeks apart and never needed to unload everything. Sad...
