9 you're fine, 10 you're mine.... $50 isn't bad for the fine, where they'll get you if you want to keep it off your record is supervision. Had a 44 in a 30, 5 years ago or so. Ticket itself was $150 but supervision took it up to $330. I just didn't want insurance jacking with me living in IL.
So, I'm not allowed on the property outside of my hunting window. Oct 1st-15th, I know the north side of the property fairly well. I know where, during the Spring, deer tend to bed and travel mornings and evenings just due to seeing/bumping them when mushroom hunting. The tract in total is 190 acres, but as you can see the majority of it is split by a big creek. Thinking I'm going to need water transport, cheaply at that. The creek is almost a small river, 20-40 feet wide in places and unknown depth. Yellow dot in NE corner is only parking allowed. To the east of it is a divided 4 lane highway and only land crossing of the creek. Want to avoid that option. This kinda sucks actually. Going to have to get a raft or something.
Here's another fun nugget. I mentiomed I have hunted this property in the spring for morels. 15 years now, but, a coworker and friemd that showed it to me grew up on the north side of this tract, like 200 feet from the northern edge across the road. His family owned this land and his grandmother donated all of it to the city in her final days and kept all of their tillable land in the family. Hoping he may be able to give some insight into crossings I'm unaware of.
Things are going to be much different than we thought. Thousands and thousands of acres of hay/alfalfa/wheat that’s being harvested now and 0 crops. We saw 5 does over easily 100+ miles in the truck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Early morning glasssing, see where they're bedding. Late day see where they stand up... Move in and kill... Rinse repeat and kill....
We have a game plan to glass certain fields in the morning. We checked probably 15 fields tonight and saw those 5 deer and this was during the golden hour. The deer were not in the fields tonight. Move to a new area and go from there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Lot easier said than done based on what we saw tonight haha. We are hunting small chunks of public integrated with private and Indian grounds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You got this man. Get in there by some water/thicker areas which have native browse. Just go back to the basics buddy!
I wish you all the luck! When we used to hunt ND for waterfowl, we saw more moose than deer… the deer we saw were living in the thickets near the sloughs. I did love the private land posting laws they had. I’m not sure if it’s still the same but it made access to private ground very easy. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
As suspected no crossing without getting wet or floating. Just keeps getting better though... Apparently the owners of my work own 30 acres to the west of this property. Might have a 2nd access point and/or location to hunt.
Much better morning. Snuck within bow range of a 100” in full velvet and found some promising sign. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Found a canola field with rolling hills that butt up to a lake/slough/creek. Not much sign but found a few beds/trails in the canola. Busted into another slough surrounded by oaks. Way too thick to hunt and not much deer sign outside of a rut trail or 2. Trying to find oaks that are dropping acorns but have not had success. The grind continues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
