Jake, DONT pass up the opportunity for a spot n stalk. Have spent years hunting coyotes there and have snuck within bowrange of some dandy bucks.
I wouldnt even know what to do with myself in that environment. So many opportunities in such a cool environment.
It’s time for my annual permethrin party. Ran out of room on the deck rail. Normally I even spray my skivvies but I figured that was overkill so I skipped it this year. If the little buggers make it past two layers of permethrin treated clothing then they deserve a snack. You won’t see any fancy Sitka or anything like that. The priciest things in my early season clothing lineup is an old, ragged ASAT 3D Leafy Suit and an old pair of HOKA hiking boots. The rest is all pure WalMart gold.
I need to do that as well. I found a new-in-package trail camera in with my FIL's hunting gear a couple of weeks ago when I was cleaning out his office. I think I am going to try to get out with my dad sometime next week when he is in town and do a squirrel hunt/scouting trip. There is a community scrape in the spot where I killed a doe last year I want to put the camera. Definitely will need permethrin treated clothes for that. I have never gotten into trail cameras before just because they are pricey, can't turn down using a free one though.
I buy the prediluted stuff. I don't want to keep that in concentrate around my house with little kids running around.
Got out today and hung 2 more cameras. Going to let them soak for a few weeks. This property doesn't open to hunt until Oct 1st. I went about 2.25 miles from the trail head where I had a lot of action last yet. I still have a stand setup in the area that was untouched so that was good to see. Came out to find about a thousands chiggers and ticks all over my clothes. Luckily all my stuff has been treated with permethrin so they were all dead. Overall I have 6 cams setup on that perticular property spread out over a few miles. Looking forward to checking them all in a few weeks. I will be hunting NC opener and can hopefully get a doe down. I have a few stands hung out already at that property too. All my gear is ready to go and now I just wait. Seen some studs being taken in TN so far this year. Looks like a great state to get in an early season hunt. Lots of nice deer out in TN.
Finally checked some of my non cell trail cameras, nothing great on them. They were both right off a corn field. Tons of morning and evening activity, largest buck probably won’t even top 100”. One of the cameras was infested with ants and died on the 16th of August. Dang ants! Have a few other regular cams to check this week, still need to move 3-4 stands. Seeing a lot of hard antlers on the cell cams, getting me pumped!! It’s hard to believe I used to be completely “ready” for whitetail by now and I would be off putting miles on chasing honkers until bow season opened. Seems impossible now. Scouted two small 50 acre pieces today. Trying to find out of the way and non traditional hunting spots to beat the crowds. Glad I went because one of the spots looked fantastic on the map, yet was terrible in person. Such easy access and signs of slob hunters. The other spot just might hold a giant from time to time. Found the nasty year round cover the deer need. Time will tell.
On the road to NoDak. Should be rolling into town with about an hour to glass the bean/hay fields. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well damn, had a 4'level fall off a ladder and landed on my trigger finger. (Knuckle) Hurts bad and getting swelled up. Bad timing for that.
This year, I got my parking permit and the map of the hunt area. Here's the kicker, it's my early season morel mushroom spot
Whoops. ND speeding tickets are cheap at least. 82 in a 70 definitely deserved this one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He knocked it down to 80 in a 70. Was a bow hunter himself! “Can’t believe you guys are going out in this hot weather.” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
