My buddy tracked another 100yds and he said it got tricky. Came to a big downed tree and the buck circled a few times but he picked the track back up. The blood was getting further apart he said. Andy had to run home to take care of some stuff but hes meeting me back out there now. Geez thank God for good tracking buddies. The search continues

I did. The arrow looked horrible but i think about 10-15% of my arrow still in him. Cant find fletchings and about 3” of the arrow. I spoke with a tracker. He isnt confident. Hes thinking by all the info i gave him i hit low backstrap entry and top of one lung exit. The fact that there arent many big pools of blood, the distance he went, and not one bed has him on the low end of the confidence scale. Im going to talk with him again. He said we will know pretty quick by how fast the dog loses interest if its mortal hit or not. He was being honest. Said it definitely could be a dead deer given enough time, he threw out 15% recovery confidence by everything we talked about. So idk what to do. Pick it back up tomorrow and grid search or have dog come out.

That’s tricky, I know a couple guys with dogs and they say not to go in anymore of you decided to use the dog it throws em off with human disturbance. Whatever you decide good luck, hard to tell with that blood. Keep us posted man!

A dogs nose is the best option IMO. How far does the tracker have to travel? Your eyes and gut instinct are probably 25% of what the dog can pick up, it's not only blood he'll follow and you're not going to muck up 300% more area with human scent

You put on miles scouting and hunting. Curious what boots do you prefer? Do you hunt in the same?

Been looking at some lace up boots and it's the get what you pay for that haunts me. Anywhere from $80 for some decent ones up to near $200 for some Lacrosse.

Question is open to everyone, only asking VS as he puts in the boots to the ground all year long whether it is scouting, hunting or fishing.

Did it look like he was bleeding from both sides? How far away from POI you find it?

Odd way to find an arrow though, assuming 27" arrow and you found front portion except for about 3-4" of the fletch side. Could have not exited, fletchings got caught up on his bolt and snapped but remained intact while the arrow was mostly pulled out, fletching piece finally broke off, maybe in creek(?), and the longer portion fell out later. Only possible if tou did not find the arrow at POI

Damn Shocker. Not saying it's over but I did not like those first pics from this morning.

I've trailed 100s of deer and, well, it just didn't look good.
I'm guessing you hit a bit higher then you thought?
But kudos for taking time tomarro to search.

Had to run to the store as soon as I got changed after this evenings sit, but when I got down it was a few minutes before the end of legal light.

I was walking back over the ridges (the walk is only about 350 yards). I topped one and saw a single big deer standing there looking at me. He looked to be about 90 yards away.

It was just a few minutes past legal light but it was dim enough I couldn't tell for sure what it was. I took a knee and looked at it through the scope on my muzzleloader. Still couldn't tell for sure what it was, but it was big. I got up and continued walking and it ran off to the east.

Just as I got to the corner where I could see the camper I got blown at by a deer of some kind standing at the corner of the woods about 60 yards from my travel trailer. I guess I was just in the wrong spot this afternoon.
