I agree. @virginiashadow may want to report that sighting to MDOC if are in one the CDW areas in the state. Edited: disregard my comment, posted before seeing the close up photo.
Related on the distance estimation...not sure if this will be real helpful for deer, but will be for elk and turkey... Basemap remote markers... Walking, I heard a rooster crowing...guessed it was a couple hundred yards point the phone...Bam. Marker right on a house or side the neighborhood. Elk usually <300yds, unless you are in the wife open... Estimating sound distance you need to consider foliage, density, terrain, moisture... Visual takes practice too...pick a random distance out walking (mall box, light pole), kids sports event to a field corner...
I’ve been saying I wish I had some daylight pics of the two bucks below. The pic is on my little property across the road. I just spent 10 minutes using binoculars to watch both of them browse 70-90 yards from my bedroom window. It gave me a good chance to evaluate them. They’re not giants, but they’re nice ones and you all know I’d shoot either in a heartbeat. I have a Stealthcam down there that I haven’t checked in a month or so. I need to check it I guess.
Got a text from my brother earlier this evening. His family and our parents are vacationing in SoDaK doing the Rushmore and Custer Park thing. For the first time in a while my parents are driving instead of flying. Since they had the extra room, my elk antlers from my first elk in 2015 are going to be finally hanging in my home when my parents arrive here next weekend. Brother sent this picture of my dad and niece with the antlers.
I created a youtube channel to show some of my adventures to my Dad when I get a Go Pro this season. He is getting older and wants to see what Im doing. haha Tame deer fawn at the archery range. Trusting little guy! - YouTube
I was having some really nice bucks on camera regularly in MD… they seemed to have vanished in the last week, wasn’t getting much at all on camera lately but this morning I have a small buck and a doe on camera in the plots so atleast there are still some deer in the area!
I went out and checked my three Stealthcams this morning. The one behind the house hadn’t taken a pic since the 20th. That has me scratching my head since I watched deer walk in front of it yesterday evening. The other two across the road had a total of 723 pics. Of those, 202 were buck pics. Most were the 10 point and the 8 point I’ve posted pics of but there is another 10 point over there. I’ve gotten pics of them every day since the 16th. Well, most of them were at night but some were during shooting light. The double tree to the right of the pic is one of my climbing trees.
Sounds like a good problem to have! Might want to check your battery compartment just to make sure a battery didn't misalign itself.
All the corn is getting hit now, and Ive had a coyote on camera for the first time in a few months, once they start harvesting, they will be back.
Finally got some cameras hung today. I guess better late than never. Earlier today I had a good conversation with a couple of NC game officers who pumped gas next to me. They were nice and actually engaging without blowing me off. They looked like swat tho. Kind of off putting imo, but I guess they have to keep up with the times sadly. Anyway, the oaks here are just raining acorns and I hope I'll get some early patterns guesstimated before season kicks off. I doubt I'll be able to hunt opening day here. Bummer.
