Side conversation outside of Shockers potential awesome buck-----during hunting season do your vehicles go to hell? Like it looks like youve lived in for months?
I backed out for now. Have to go talk to neighbor. Blood is steady. He opened up at bottom of hill. @Holt it was a slick trick magnum 125 gr. Going to drink some coffee and get a bite to eat then head back out there
If my truck ever got to that point I would light it on fire and start over lol Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
Tough pill to swallow brother.... Cut yourself some slack. You hunted what you had available to you all those years and were very sucessful in doing so. Now it is time to adapt to the new scenario. The transition will take some time and there will be growing pains along the way. At the end of the day, you truly know what you are doing. Ignore the negative voice on your shoulder second guessing every decision you make, trust your gut.
I shot this little buck 10 years ago… I was on the ground as he and two doe popped out of the corn and stood in an alfalfa field. He dropped as well… 40 yard shot if I remember correctly. This guy ran 700 yards and flipped over dead. Grim Reaper BH… looks like I should have spined him but I didn’t… I could not find blood so I just walked in the direction I saw him flip (I thought he jumped something at the time) he stayed in the field the whole death run. I am posting this just to say if it was below the spine like mine was (tho the one blade of the GR BH hit the bottom of the spine) he is dead. I think your plan is a solid one and mine did not start losing blood on the ground until he flipped Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
It's probably some advice I could take myself. I swear I am forever October's b!tch no matter how much I change up my game plan/scouting techniques. There are just so many thick massive mountain laurel patches (10-20 acres in size), the deer could literally never leave and survive perfectly fine year after year. Which is pretty much what they do once they realize they are being hunted, and then only come out of there at night and leave sign which gives my dumba$$ hope. There are absolute monsters in there. The night time trail cam pics don't lie. The only time they are vulnerable is during the rut when they might be going back to bed late if they even left the mountain laurel patch. How does one hunt that? I've read everything on it over on the hunting beast and have applied everything. I think I just need to forget the area and sign until the rut, even then it is a total crap shoot. I think I need to call this section of the woods the casino because if you see something/win, you are lucky. In years past I have written this area off because of the same scenario and outcome year after year. Yet here I am falling for it hook line and sinker in 2022. The most productive sits I have had in these woods are in my deep spots I started hunting a few years back that have terrain that promotes deer movement. I need to focus on those areas, and the thick nasty swamps in some other parts of the woods and ignore the fools gold that I've been after this season so far. Brainstorm/Reality check over.......
I think im gonna give it a lot of time. I still cant get ahold of the landowner. I may take kids to the pumpkin patch then go from there
Option A: ease back into the blood and slowly take up the track here at noon (5 hrs after shot), if looks good push on if i dont like it i back out and come back after family get together which would put me back out there 5-530. Or…. Just wait till after the family deal (10 hrs after shot). The outlook is that it seems to be high for sure, bubbles in some of the blood i found so high double or high single lung.
Do not beat yourself up over a few hunts. It takes awhile to learn a new property. Its luck at best (or super mad skill) to go in and be successful out of the gate. Dust yourself off and get back in the saddle. Only way to persevere in the public land game. Its a way different ballgame than what your used to. But once you get used to hunting new areas and the freedom of movement i think you’ll like it.
