We are in drought conditions in Missouri and have at least a week of high winds coming soon. The leaf drop is going to be real early this year.

There are several oak species out there that hang on to their leaves till spring. It's weird. I think live oaks are one of them. When I first got to MO, I was surprised at how many trees don't exactly shed their leaves there. Were the acorns any good out there? We are having a bumper crop of acorns here.

40mph gusts possible tomorrow and possibly again Friday afternoons. Should still be able to get an AM sit in Friday though.

I've been hunting around a lot of swamp so I've been around a lot of different oak species than I'm used to. They seem to be dropping pretty well. The 1 or 2 times that I went out to hill country I did see white oaks dropping. I would say it's a good year.

I've seen three so far, two doe and a button buck out in the field. Only the button buck came close enough for a shot opportunity and he got a pass. I'm going to hang out for another 45 minutes or so, then stalk through the marsh on the south side of the property one the wind starts to really whip.

I'm going to hunt on the ground tonight. Strong WNW is not ideal for any of my stands. Going to tuck into these pines circled in red along our corn and the neighbors hay and hope for the best. Corn is not all the way to the property line here so I should have a decent shot. Daytime pictures of 2 bucks last cold front 100yds south of this spot on the blue dot. Ton of travel along this edge so we will see what happens.

One of the more bizarre set ups I think I’ve had. Confidence is at just about 0 with this wind but you can’t kill them from the couch!
