In my experience, deer tracks under oaks without deer droppings or acorns on the grounds means the deer are checking it at night. Once the droppings show up, they are there in daylight because the acorns are dropping.

Sorry guys I got both of the deer cleaned up and into the cooler last night around 11:45 then me my dad and brother in law sat around a hot fire and drank some beverages so I didn’t get home until about 2:00 so I did sleep in a little this morning.

Here we go….I got into the stand around 5:00 and it just felt right. I had acorns along the field edge that were pouring out of the oaks, green soy beans on the inside corner where I was sitting, and early shadows on the field by 5:30. At 5:45 I saw 2 small bucks inside the woods just browsing along. Then around 6 my doe appeared in the same spot but she turned and headed towards the field. She did exactly what I was hoping and came right to the beans in the corner and gave me an 18 yard hard quartering away shot around 6:15, I took the shot and she crashed after about 100 yards.

I sat in the stand until about 6:45 and decided to get down so I could get the doe out to my dads and get home at a decent time.

    Here’s where it got interesting.

I lowered my bow gathered all my stuff and started climbing down, as I was half way down the tree a doe popped out at 30 yards! I slowly made my way down to the ground when she was feeding. As I was standing there the buckcame out across the field, at the time I didn’t know exactly what he was, but I knocked an arrow and just hung tight.

I figured what the hell and pulled out my grunt tube and gave 3 grunts, and here he comes. As he was making his way across the field 3 more does were coming in as well. He took his time worked 2 or 3 scrapes but he was coming. The last scrape he worked was at 15-20 yards, now I’ve got 5 adult deer within 20 yards.

I was in kind of an awkward position and almost messed up but I had to adjust a little and one doe caught me. She took one bound and blew. As she did that I drew and the buck took a bound and stopped perfectly at 25 yards and I cut it loose. The arrow hit its mark taking out both lungs and his heart, he made it about 80 yards and crashed!

It was one of if not the most exciting hunt that I’ve ever had, and will be burned into my memory for years to come!

Thank you for all of the congratulations guys, as I’ve said before this thread and the camaraderie here makes hunting even better.

I’m going to be busy this weekend.

Great story Mitch! Congrats again. You definitely put the smack down.

3 doe came by a few minutes ago. Seems a little slower than I’d had hoped for this cold morning.

No I slit those spots between the ribs so it’s like a handle. One hand there one on the gambrel and the same for the guy on the other side so it’s easier to walk them in the cooler

That a freakin' awesome story. It certainly took some skill and good choices, especially to get the shot on him with so many deer near you. WTG.
