I am never bringing ratchet straps with me on a hang and hunt setup. I'll sit on the ground or tear down my XOP that's been there for a year before I use those things. XOP and others are beginning to make an independent strap+bracket that their stands just hang onto. I am considering those with a new XOP for the back 40. Just get a 3 pack and set them and forget them at pre determined trees in good spots for certain wind directions. I will be doing a run and gun tonight... First time since ND. Going in at 330 instead of 430 this afternoon.
Got into them this morning, bumped 4 different deer in about 200 yards, off the edge of a clear cut that is nasty thick, got into some slightly less thick stuff but I was expecting to find some good trails going through it, didn’t find much but there was a ton of crap and found several beds. The problem with the set up is it’s only 30ish yards from the main trail/logging road. Not sure if I will be there opening day or not, didn’t end up prepping a tree but it’s pretty open if you get up in the air
I got the skeletors from tethered last year and they have been awesome to hang and hunt with. I would highly recommend them
No, as a veteran and member of the law enforcement community, @virginiashadow wants made-in-America Trophyline products, built right in O-H-I-O. Not Chinese manufactured products, Tethrd's recalls are enough to keep me away from any climbing sticks from them. Simmer down and take a cold shower Buckeye fans. That is the only time I am saying that.
What didn't you like about them? I have two sets and think they are pretty easy to hang. 'Course I channeled my inner saddle hunter and did rope mods on them. I think that improved them. Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I did rope mods, which made them better. However, I found that the sticks would still not bite to a tree well enough to my satisfaction. Mainly, it was a packability thing to me. Those three step sticks are long and awkward to sneak through thick brush with them on.
Change of plans, Ian wiped out the vacation to FL. I'll be public land rut hunting Nov 4th thru the 13th instead.
You will get it. The first time i tried hanging my lonewolf i had to look like a monkey effing a football. I think it took 45 minutes on a straight easy tree. Its practice and learning the tricks. Setting the sticks and spacing them correctly. @Justin had a good rule of thumb for this by aligning the versa button (lonewolf stick) at nose height. After i tried that it worked well for me too. Having the right amount of slack in your lineman rope is key also so you can work hands free at the right distance from tree. Practice make perfect just dont get frustrated and give up cause its so worth it. Who am i kidding im talking to VS lol. You dont give up.
That tree line to the west is no longer there so this has be to my entry tonight (starting at the top). Corn/beans planted east to west so it’s impossible to walk through north/south. 60 degrees with light SSE wind. Heading out shortly. Hope hanging this stand goes half way decent. Just got close to getting a shot on a doe. Was setting up and saw her feeding at 50. Dropped my pack and closed like 10 yds but another doe behind me blew and she quick walked off. I set up where she was feeding. I picked a federal refuge that is open to bowhunting and just walked in....never been here. Met an old guy named Ron. 79yrs old and crossbow hunting the main trail. Sat down on a bench and talked to him about the history of the place. Told me his secret in being in great shape is to "stay active". . He had hitchhikers all over him and told me about the mosquitoes. Said he is from "elephant rock" Missouri. I love it. Great Old guy.
