It’s a 187 acre property that we’ve been managing for 8 years. It started paying off after 5 years. We don’t shoot any younger than 4.5 years old. It sure takes a lot of work in the summer planting corn, soybeans and other food plots.

I can’t imagine trying to make that work here.

First, the ground is too rocky to plant anything.

Second, some of these hill folk shoot anything with four hooves during deer season.

Third, some of these hill folk shoot anything with four hooves when it’s not deer season.

Recap of the night: walked in, flock of turkeys, waved hi to them and kept walking. They didn’t care, not sure why, but they let me go within 50 yards without causing a scene. Cool birds.
Sitting in new tree, 4 doe and 3 babies hit the beans. I think something is off, climb down and work towards my other stand from last night. Big 12 right in front of the tree.
So I sneak over the crest towards a tall grass patch, wind in my favor. As I’m scanning and moving, I see no danger…until that stupid little fork pops his stupid head up. I said screw it, I’ll move slow, I’m kind of working away from him anyway, well, he decided to say hello. The other other three trash bucks didn’t care much, but the big fella did.
defeated I head to the truck…guess whose in my way…the big fella from last night. So I start sneak session V2.
All is going well, until I find the one stupid loudest little stick, I’m like 60 yards, he spots me, I take a knee, he starts walking to me trying to see what I am. He’s probably 40 yards head on from me. Light goes away, I wasn’t going to risk a long shot on an alert buck even if he turned broadside.
So after a 20min stand off, I did the only reasonable thing, I jumped up and ran right at him.
So, looking back at it all, kind of fun night, but I’m pissed I left the other stand. Oh well, it wouldn’t be fun if was easy.

Um I think that buck is 4 1/2 easy. Being early season and his body is built like a rutted up buck, makes me think he is older then 3 1/2. That deep chest and flat belly screams 4 1/2. You have history with him?

Sometimes it pays to do"off the wall" tactics.
I've killed alot of stuff doing what most would consider "no way".
    I will pin that buck a 5+.
    Trophy in any sense!

We do have history of him. Dad and I were looking at the pictures I took of him and he said he’s 4-1/2. I said he just doesn’t have the mass of a 4-1/2.
