Good news is I know my 500gr set up can kill the crap out of 18" of sand. Holy crap was that arrow buried. I was at full draw for over a minute while she was walking straight toward, she finally turned broadside right on top of me, top pin was set at 25, aimed low to compensate, aimed too low I guess. Never practice on steep angle short range shots, guess I know now.
Always got to aim high on those close steep angles. Reload and be ready. A buck could step out next. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Missed a huge buck on a shot like that once. Up 18 feet or so up in a tree on a hill side and the buck was 10yds away but low down in the creek. So in reality I was close to 25 ft high. Shot right under him. Almost cried.
Good luck on the track West, good luck hunting rest of y’all. My cams are blowing up, deer are on their feet!
I might be kicking myself at the tail end of the season after this morning... I just had one of my target bucks at about 45 yards standing in the bean field behind me originally he and his teeny friend were about 80 yards away and the little spike got as close as 38, but sOmething must have seemed off about the situation and they both turned around and headed off where they came from. I really thought they were just going to continue on their path which would have led them to chip shot range. Another time I guess. The little guy was a single sided spike, a unicorn if you will!
