Same here. 100 today...again. Tomorrow will only be 75 to 80. I'm gonna spend at least half a day scouting
Murphys law...pack a bigger & heavier one and you see nothing... Fwiw a G20 or G40 are a nice compromise, unless you have a full mag.
Pretty productive day. 1 cam set and found a good deer population. Dont know how this place will be during hunting season. Lots of tracks. 1 cam set. Maybe saw 1, 3 year old along with a bachelor group. View attachment 154592
Also, think I found a small waterway full of bowfins. I have never fished for one. They were hunting like crazy...I need some tips on how to catch them.
Elk opener is one month and 4 days away. Did some tuning on my hunting arrows while at camp this weekend. Got bare shaft and fletched hitting together at 20 yards. It did need some adjustments, then when I had them hitting good, I tried a fixed BH and field point. Green is the fixed BH, blue is the field point, aimed at center of white circle. The green is at a slightly different angle because it was shot first and it made the target rotate a bit. I shot my 3d arrows afterwards and gang adjusted the sight until they were hitting on again. There is one last 3d shoot I want to make it to, so sight still has my lighter 3d arrow yardage tape on it. Will need to sight in for hunting arrows after the 3d shoot, but I'm happy with the tune.
Surrounding areas and I mean within 400 yards, are flooded. Rain is slowing down now. Creeks are flowing about 5 to 6 feet above normal.
I’ve caught a ton of bowfin in my time, and almost always by accident. I generally try to avoid them because they are a powerful, stubborn fish and I’ve never heard of anyone eating them. They’re a blast to catch though and they don’t quit fighting. I used to use channel-lock pliers to lower-lip them but they would literally tear their lower jaw off. If you want to fish for them I’d suggest a Mepps Aglia or a Mepps Black Fury, size #3 to #5. Regardless of which you choose, get one with a chartreuse tail. They’ll bite other lures and colors occasionally, but they’ll hammer those two. Be sure to bring along some fish grippers and hook removal pliers. Their teeth will do a number on you. Also, inspect your line after you catch a good one and re-tie if necessary.
I finally got around to ordering a 7/32” peep for my Heli-m. I put one on my V3 last year and it really helped. I didn’t hunt with my Heli-m at all last year so I didn’t worry about it. Now my shoulders are giving me some trouble so I’m going to make sure it’s ready to be my primary bow if needed. The peep arrived yesterday so I’m about to install it and do some shooting with my old single cam hunting pal.
Buddy and I just created a YouTube channel to share some vids since we both moved recently. Dont laugh if this isnt a bowfin....I really have no idea! Lol
Catch a small to medium sized bluegill or sunfish. Cut it in half and put a big hook through it and cash out and reel in slow.
Not really. None at local big sporting goods stores, but easy to find and some occasional deals, online (Ammoseek.com).
When I was at Bass Pro Shop in Springfield I saw quite a bit of 10mm. I didn’t pay attention to the details but it was there. Underwood has 10mm ammo in stock online. They even have hard cast flat nose in stock if you’re wanting something devastating.
I have recently started looking at some new clothing and it's impossible for me to decide on anything. I'm so indecisive on everything.
