Doe and 2 fawns came into 30. The one fawn would not stop bleating. Not sure what was going on with him/her. Only time I’ve heard them do that is when their mom is gone.

At least you didn’t leave the necessities back at the side by side this morning. Probably should get a little more aggressive with your rattling sequences, lol

Might not be its Mom, might be adopted. Here in NJ I often see a Doe with 4-5 fawns. I've never seen a Doe have more then triplets, so I assume she adopted the fawns of another Doe which died. Could be the case for what you saw.

Most certainly could be. The fawn is back and is still bleating. Feel bad for the little thing.

I'm out. Saw nothing. Walked the creek on the way out to see if any tracks. Only 1 set of fresh tracks and it was running. So probably what I heard earlier. I will be back to another property this afternoon. Time to refuel for all the dragging I'm going to do tonight! Lol

Well didn't see anything this morning. Back at the house to regroup have some chicken and biscuits and then heading back out around 2-3.

Congrats VT back in VA now my September leave is done. May try and sneak over that MD line and hunt public if the opportunity arises.

I’ll be in NJ for work 10/4-9… so gonna miss opening week in VA.

Always can do it yourself. Avoid the wait time and know that you definitely got your deer back.
(Use to be a place where I'm from in MD that would wait till they had 20 deer in the freezer and then process them all in one batch. They somehow figured out how much meat you'd get out of the batch. I think they weighed the deer then gave you the average amount out of that size deer.)

I'll do it myself if possible, but space, temps and time limit that. If it's cool enough to let hang not a problem, but when temps are up and it's November I don't really have time to do it myself and still be able to hunt the next day.

If you have an extra refrigerator that your willing to use to hang quarters, you can always skin and quarter it then leave the quarters in the fridge. That's what I do if I don't have time to butcher it right then and there. I know it's a pain and the butchers make it a lot more convenient. I don't usually get anything but Saturdays to hunt. Hunting is closed on WMA's in SC on Sundays.

The whole idea of having a hunting season that restricts days of the week just seems so backwards in 2021. I'm from Minnesota and have never hunted out of state, so I'm just leaning this is a thing as I get more in to posting on these forums, but it just feels like it doesn't make any sense. I get the whole, Sunday is supposed to be a day of prayer and reflection, but what better place to do that, than in a place not (terribly) disturbed/changed by humans?

I absolutely agree with you! I'd rather be out hunting on Sunday. But currently unless the legislation gets passed in SC we are without Sunday hunting on WMA's. If it does pass I don't expect it to be put into law until next season. Everyone I knew did a survey and everyone e checked yes that they supported Sunday hunting.

So it's just the public spots that you can't hunt, private land is fair game? That just seems entirely too elitist.

Change of plans. The barometric pressure is rising and it’s almost a full moon, so I’m back on stand.

    It’s gonna be hot.

    Same in CT.

Public land, no hunting on Sundays and the archery season is Sep 15th to Nov 16.

Private land archery, you can hunt on Sundays and the season is from Sep 15-Jan 31.

Pretty odd considering how liberal this state is.

That's a pretty solid archery season though! Though sometimes I think it's a bit of an advantage not being able to hunt on sunday. Because it does give the deer a break.
Eventually I'll own a bunch land and be able to make food plots and have stands that I don't have to take down every time.
