I'm back at the house and I have to say that I'm almost certain that he is going to survive.

I guessed him at 30 yards because I didn't have time to range him. He was downwind in the Ozonics stream doing the Ozonics Shuffle and was on full alert. I knew he was going to drop so I aimed for his heart. He didn't drop and he was a little over 30 yards. I saw the arrow hit low, and then deflect off a rock and go sailing into never never land. I heard and saw the arrow clacking through the trees and the Nocturnal disappeared mid-flight. I still have no idea where the arrow is. I might be able to find it tomorrow.

I knew the shot was low but I was also thinking it was possible that I'd gotten the bottom of the heart. As soon as we took up the blood trail I knew I'd missed the heart and that it was a brisket shot. My neighbor came out and helped me track. The blood started off good but by the time we lost it it was just a drop here and there.

I'm still going to take Elly May out in the morning on the way-off chance it was wounded worse than I think and to make every effort to recover him, but like I said, I'm pretty sure he's still alive.

I'm not happy right now. I've hunted so hard for a shot at a buck this season. This is only the second shot I've had at a buck and I've screwed them both up.

I have some pics of this buck on my phone and I'll post them when I find them. Like I told Justin Goins above, he was a gnarly think that wouldn't have scored much. Still, he wouldn't have been a "Fergie" either.

    Any luck on the trail?

Even though the temp was _2* at 3:00 today, I said screw it.
Had a great year even though I didn't kill a biggie.
Threw my last tag in the fire at 5:30 p.m.

This is him. I thought I had another pic but I must have deleted it. Today was the first time I actually laid eyes on him.

Dang man. Hopefully Elly May can find him for ya. Good luck in the morning. He does look gnarly in the trail camera pic. How far did you track him until you lost blood?

About 275 yards. Through that same briar infested cut-over Elly May found the doe in.

Hopefully Elly May can save the day again. If she's not able to tomorrow, might not be a bad idea to try a second time when temps moderate a bit after tomorrow. I don't know what freezing temps might do to a scent/blood trail but might freshen up a bit after thawing a bit?

    Good luck in the morning

Walked outside barefoot to see if i forgot to disconnect my hose from the bib on side of house. Glad i decided to hunt the evening although this might have been wonderful for deer movement. You up and at em Chief?
