Congratulations LC, glad Elly May was able to redeem herself and you were able to get that deer.

Boy RJ, that's a hard one to pass but I think you made the right decision as long as neighbors don't get it. It looks like a 3.5 or 4.5 to me. Should be a really good buck next year.

Awesome story! And so glad she made her way back to the both of you.

Hey maybe she went on some kind of doggie deer tracking school for 11 days. She wasn't going to return until she got it! Only to return to redeem her self for the lack luster track before. Now after her 11 day mission, she has become a master tracker! That's the way I think what happen. Haha

Well, there are deer but they’re half a quarter away. Maybe I should’ve been more specific on where I wanted the deer.

Crickets since the first and only movement. No need for the deer to move much when it’s this warm.

Johnny, what an awesome outcome and story!!!! It’s all about the story! That doe will give you strong forever memories as much as a big buck will! Way to go, brother

I thought the same after my doe from last year. Not only did my arrow enter the guts before punching though her heart, I was trying to do a quick gut job and I ended up slicing her bladder open. Piss, poop, and blood- I thought, from here on out I am just gonna pass on trying to save the inner loins on any gut shot deer.

You can get to them through the back after the back straps are removed. Fred Eichler has a gutless video on a elk that shows how to do it. Starts at 8:15 mark

Water sources in December? Might not be a bad idea this year.

lol, she was little. They were totally not worth it. Soon as I nicked the bladder I wanted to kick myself for even trying. And throw up.
I watched that or a similar vid prior to my elk trip years ago. Definitely a good how-to and an underused technique. If I ever end up dropping one in a cedar swamp again I am definitely going to pack it out vs. trying to drag or get a cart.

Going to try my luck in MI again. Snowing pretty hard but the weather jerk is promising it will end by 4. Lol.

Got another dump coming tomorrow into sat. Then mid next week we will be near 50 for highs.

I'm set up on the ground. Same general place I've been hunting in VT. Lots of tracks, everywhere. Hard to tell where they are going and coming from, or when. Good luck everyone! 2" of new snow too.

The snow has turned to light rain which looks to be ending.

Glad I'm in a snack. Wasn't feeling the Casper imitation today
