I'm up for the evening! Deep in a marsh, sitting over the creek that runs thru it. Only reason to sit here is this is were I would go if someone was hunting me with a rifle. Nice chest high rub about 15 yards out, just not fresh. There was a mature buck in here at some point. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Feels good to be back out. I got horribly sick last week. That's 3 major sickness in 2 months, I am beat! But finally feeling 90 percent. Just want to get back to normal and shoot some deer! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I'm in today. On the ground on the edge of a Turnip brassica food plot. They have been hitting it hard, Bucks and Doe. Will definitely shoot a 100" Buck. Won't know on Doe till its standing in front of me. Snow on the ground. Light rain. Will be off the phone cause they will be on top of me if they come in.
Had some busy work today. No hunting. Changed truck oil and cleaned the house..wife has been out of state for almost a week.haha. Hoping to get out there tomorrow but looks like I'll have court. Maybe Sat.
What the heck? It's December. The new moon is approaching and I want to hunt this afternoon but it's 77 degrees outside. There's no way anything is going to be moving, but I'll be there to find out. I'll go out if for no other reason than to have all of my gear in the tree for the morning sit. I really like doing that. It's nice walking in when it's dark and not having to set stuff up. Just climb up, strap in and sit down. It's supposed to get up to 70 tomorrow also, and my wife is leaving for Indianapolis, IN tomorrow to visit a friend. The colorblind fellow will be on his own again. Tomorrow is probably when I'll get a shot. Warm, alone and colorblind so if I get one I'll be racing to find it, skin & quarter it and get it in the fridge like it's September. On another note, I went to town today to get a haircut and saw two dead bucks along with a handful of dead does in the median of Hwy 60. They're still chasing here.
Company nurse says I can't come back to work until next Wednesday. Ok. I will go hunt. Armed and dangerous
I didn't make it out today. Was watching THP before going to sleep and was going to take me until 10:30 to get caught up. Went ahead and adjusted my alarm to 3:30 from 2:30. Plenty of time with legal light at 6:34. Hadn't done it before because i felt like I was being rushed or running late. Finished last episode and turned tv off, last looked at time at 12:09am. Woke up to first alarm at 3:30. Slept through next 2 and woke up at 5:15. Getting in well after sunrise with temps supposed to get mid 60's and a west wind said screw it. Light southeast wind tomorrow is much better. Have to remember to take some Z-quill yonight though.
I’m up at my uncles place. Climbing into the stand and the neighbor to the north starts running a chainsaw in the woods about 80 yards from me, his stench is blowing where I expect the deer to come from…. But at least I’m hunting and hopefully he will be leaving soon. Good luck everyone
I’m all set up and settled in. Checked my cameras walking in and had does in front of my stand yesterday afternoon and this morning. Of course I wasn’t here.
Well it almost worked. Had 3 does come out at 90 yards. Still a hour and no way they would come my way. So slide down tree and make a stalk. I get into small creek with 3 foot tall banks and work my way to them. I get to 40 yards and see one of them staring in my direction. For 30 minutes she just stared and keep walking back and forth trying to figure out what I was. I was able to make about 5 more yards before they decided it was enough and slowly walked back up in the woods. If that one deer didn't see something, I could have done it. Just 5 more yards tonight and I was in the game! It's almost dark and I'm heading out. That was alot of fun! I will be back, one doe was a big girl! Good luck all! When I was heading out this afternoon I told my wife that the wind is in my favor and I'm not going to bother with the Ozonics. The wind was blowing right to the nastiest part of the cut over and I have NEVER seen deer come out of there since I've been hunting here. HA! Yeah, right. Just before last light the deer not only came out of there but came out headed straight to me. The wind had died at that point but the lead doe got to about 30 yards blew, bounced back through the thick stuff and proceeded to blow for another 5 minutes. Actually, since I could hear them coming and I was straining my eyes to see them I'm not sure if she winded me or picked me off looking. I never saw the doe until she bolted. I hope they winded me. I just packed up and headed back. Maybe tomorrow morning will be better.
Yeah, it was 77 degrees when I climbed up. I was wearing the exact same gear I wear when season opened in Kentucky on 15 September. This is just wrong.
You can wash the gear, but I wouldn't store them away yet. Mid month is looking horrible again as far as departure from normal goes. Normals drop through the month so may not be upper 70's again, but in general December looks FUBAR for lasting cold.
Saw a few baldies but they are safe on my property. Have to fill in for someone tomorrow. Ought to be fun doing that from home! Don't think I will make it out but who knows. May head to MI and take a doe. If I do, my season is done. Don't need any more meat. The next one goes to my daughter.
I never pack up any of my hunting clothing. It all hangs in the little closet I built just for that. As far as the warm temps go, that’s a killer here but I don’t think it will matter much where I’m going in Kentucky on the 11th. Those deer will hit the picked corn fields no matter what. They’re just kinda stupid that way.
