I'm out. Have some stuff to take care of before going to work. Good luck to all who are staying out and press on. Sent from my Z719DL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Sometimes I forget this during the season, but when things start to get exhausting and hopes are waning, remember we are hunting. What a gift. And it will be gone way too soon. Its gonna be 60 degrees today and deer movement will suffer. I dont care I'm going to enjoy myself in a tree.
Yeah, I haven't either. Thursday I had the 2nd 2 yr old 8 come past panting like crazy. That's the extent of seeing rur activity, other than the buck I passed Nov. 3rd trailing behind a doe. I haven't really heard anyone bragging about a great rut around here. Few nice bucks hut the ground, but that happens in Oct. as well so nithing out of the ordinary.
Lol. ...doe never have an issue with a buck decoy...a doe decoy will have them blowing across the woods. The gals are keen on ANY new gal in the area, they don't recognize...Bucks are transitory so they expect new scents and sights of them. If you have winds like mine they'll just pop up and down as the wind blows...hahaha
Well a fork horn at 12yrds, he just stood there looking around and up at me every once in a while. He finally moved off. As it had gotten light I saw something completely flattened the WLS I had planted in a circle around some clover and grasses in front of stand. Not a seed head left. I left and walked the property line out and checked two cams. Nothing but Sun movement on one. The other had a big fat Doe at 8:30 pm and a rather sneaky big bodied buck at 9pm. He managed to get two close shots of just his body, neck back. Think I'll hit that stand tonight. Son came up and hunted out back...saw nothing. So tomorrows winds in Alfred will be perfect for the stand I was in last Thursday. The winds are also suppose to be pretty mild. Hopefully they have forgotten picking me off because of a bad wind for their movement. Now I know how they move I know how to hunt the stand....Will need a good sleep early to bed tonight.
So they call for a S/SE wind today, hey no problem . I have 1.45 hr to think about how to enter my spot, come up with a plan and feeling frisky. I’m gonna walk straight up the hill keeping the wind in my face because once I get to the top of the ridge they could be tight in there already, didn’t want to approach it from the “easy” way and have my scent blow all over the bedding. I make the almost 1 mile walk and cover 600 vertical feet. Get settled in the tree of my liking and the GD wind is blowing from the N. Didn’t care until now, deer are blowing. Not happy…still sitting till 12. I wish I knew a weatherman so I could kick em in the nuts.
So I have been thinking we need to start a fund. One to send thousands of compasses to meteorological courses for students. These with implicit instructions on what wind speed and direction really means and HOW to post them correctly.
BTW @ Little Chief ....see... 31/2 days left of early and zilch...contest...yes I still have late season and even gun in some spot's,bow only...but it's been rough since the Sept. Doe. ....contest... Just about 11.a.m.. and I'm drinking! Yep my coffee has gone to Jameson and coffee...contest.....lol
