I always shoot sitting down, helps to keep from dropping the arm rather than bending at the waist etc. as you are lower naturally. I can't remember the last time I had to stand to take a shot, would probably take a shot with deer behind me to stand up.

Definitely set alarm and go by radar.

Things had been looking better the past 48 hours, then today trended back to 1/2" of rain with most falling in the daybreak range. The rain I can deal with, but follow it up with all the wind no thanks.

If you can serve a string to tie it in, bow press or whatever to lax the string, probably. Probably a equation out there to figure out where to place it.

I'd say go to a reputable bow shop you trust. They can have you draw and anchor to help figure out the distance from nock point you need it.

If you have a press yes, if not it should be a very very fix install at the local shop

I was hoping you got that bear tonight. Think that would have been a new adventure in its own right.

I wouldn't have a clue how to dress it out other than just cutting and yanking it out. Probably a whole new smell to get used to as well. Then the drag out and skinning, processing etc...

Hell, I'm worried about my first turkey and how to properly do it

I used my small trees pruning shears. Use it to cut off the head, the legs at the bottom of the drumstick and the wing at the first joint.

Skinning is far easier than plucking unless you have a plucker for chicken, ducks or geese.

    Then take out the guts.

Turkeys do smell and its not just their guts

Have to admit, I was confused at first. Thought you were talking about a bear

Yeah, I have gathered that skinning is the best method for a first timer, eat the breast as you see fit and do not treat the dark meat like chicken or butterballs

I've gotten one shot at turkey(fall season) and tried to be cute and decapitate it with a rage. Clipped a bunch of wing feathers and 3 drops of blood.

Ever since then, they catch me moving from 30yds out.

I don't care what @Sota thinks, turkey are not dumb, at least outside of spring breeding but have never hunted them then. Never really hunt them in the fall either, just buy a tag because I see them.

Seen your posts about getting cold, have you tried different styles of heat packs/wraps?

I always use the hand and toe warmers, buy them by the case actually.

But they also have larger ones for back, neck etc. I used to use the back ones to try and keep the kidneys warm, the larger body ones(adhesive backed) I'd stick to the inside of a hat as they say most heat is lost through the top of the head.

Kinda pricey at times, but they do help when needed.

    Alarm is still set.

Very doubtful I make it, but I will give it a chance.

Jeep is packed and ozoned. Coffee pot set. there is a rain system just now moving into the area that will be here all night. Thunderstorms forecasted between 11p-3a with the rain not letting up until 5a. Legal light is at 6:10. I will be in a tree got the next two days to do all day sits for a mini rutcation. Gun season starts Saturday, after that any chance I get will probably involve taking out my boys to get them deer.
