I've never hunted bear but anytime I've watched it they always hear this death moan. I wouldn't go after it in the dark without a firearm..............and backup!

I agree, bear lungs are slightly back and higher than a deer.

I called it at 1:30. Winds were blowing SE but in stamd they were vlowing every direction but. I changed stands without issue at 10:15. Got on stand and seen first and only deer there at 11:40, 2 1/2 year old 7 point came out if woods, cauggt scent and went right back in. Wasn't going to shooy regardless but wasn't a confidence booster either.

Rain tonight and into the morning, 30+ mph winds Friday. Have to look at Saturday forecast and debate over if I want to hunt the lesser areas. Doubt I hunt Sunday and back to work Monday.

May be done until shotgun season next Friday, will have bow and .44 magnum both when that occurs.

Looks like I skimmed the bottom of his belly fat dude. This is comical and I think hes gonna be 100% fine. 0 blood. Like shooting and skinning a deer fat. Some black hair and smell of fat. I suck at bowhunting!

I'm a wannabe bowhunter. Get down. Check. Bummed. Huge buck chasing a doe 50 yds away on ridge.

    Bear brats:biggrin:
VS, if that bear made it 50 yards and walked off, odds are slim you find it. Fatal shot bear seldom make 50 an die runnnin
you may have hot the liver on which case he'll likely go about 200 yards and bed up.
Of you wait till morning, the meat will be ruined.

    Good luck and cool encounter.

    Damn Brett, sorry man!!!

I think I'm going to sit out tomorrow. I have 4 major papers due next Wednesday, plus a midterm due Tuesday. I'm going to spend the day tomorrow and Friday getting it all done. Friday the front is coming through so we are gonna get soaked. This leaves me with 3 days, until the bonus season, dec 23-jan3rd, which I've never hunted. This might have to be the year I start.

Saturday, the day after the front, I'll be going deep. I'll be doing the same on Monday, and the last day Tuesday. Then the Orange Army invades. A big part of me wants to go out tomorrow morning though.....all my gear is repacked....ugh!

I made a bad shot with a bow 2 years ago on a bear, shot low underestimating their fat.

That being said the bear I did get had very minimal blood. And it died within 40 yds (rifle) the others I've helped track often were just drops of blood for a dead bear. That fat seals up quick.

Now calling for 30mph winds after the rain tomorrow and again on Friday.

Trying to debate whether it is worth waking up at 2:30, driving an hour to hunt for maybe 3 hours in the rain.

Have some deer steaks thawing, think my rutcation is over.
