Slept in today and it was wonderful, but regrettable. Gearing up for evening hunt.

Just has a pretty cool encounter. Rattled a buck in but he just wouldn’t commit. Slowly circled the area and stayed around for like 20-30 minutes until he finally walked off so close yet so far

I've had some great sits the last few days. Including last night. That said, I'm feeling out of sorts being idol so long.
knew this blind needed a "wrap" Fix on up hill side so packed in fleece and staple gun. Getting ready to go. Think I may have gotten water between boot and rubbers ctossing creek. So fixed material in place and stapled as quietly as possible. Forgot how comfy this is. Will do a afternoon sit here soon. Sign and tracks are great..just not this a.m.
I think all this wet...has changed patterns

Not a single deer. May call it a weekend by 11. Come back Monday when I can sit where I need to be, this definitely isn't the stand

Nice mature 8 pt just came through. Rattled him in, but then stayed just out of bow range to swing around behind me. He hit my trail in, but casually kept walking behind be.

Doe and cruising 3pt so far. Severely underdressed. Saw 42 degrees and didn’t wear the big wind proof jacket. Here I sit with 15mph winds in my face all morning.

I didn't get a chance to update on my hunt yesterday afternoon.

I was running late due to being on hold with an issue with my cell cam.

I was in my stand less than five minutes when I saw my first deer-a young doe. About half hour later, a doe and fawn came through. All these deer were unfazed by the high winds and seemingly lack of buck presence. A spike came walking by and sort of just looked at the doe and kept walking. He was out of sight but I could hear him circle back in the thick stuff. When her came out, he started to push the doe but she wasn't having any of it.

About a half hour before dark, I heard 2 deer coming. One from my left, the other from ahead. The deer on the left was a half rack 3 pt-I couldn't see the deer to the front. They get to about 30 yards out and stop. They both stood there for 20 minutes. Finally took a couple steps and stop again.

I heard yet another deer back in about 50-60 yards. He let out 2 growls (at least I think it was-never heard one before) followed by a grunt. That moved the other 2 deer closer to me but I have less than 5 minutes of light.

I can see a huge body moving through the thick stuff and look like its going to keep going. Cant see it when it stops moving.

A third buck starts grunting off to my right and I can see the big body move that way and then they all stop.

Now its too dark to shoot and I'm stuck in the tree. I hear even more deer coming and cant do a thing but listen. 25 minutes of leaves rustling, branches breaking, and grunting before they all finally move off.

My buddy and I have been bitching that we have seen zero rut activity. That switch was flipped last night.

Hope I got a pic of that big body!

Well I got down and moved to another stand. Checked two cameras on the way in. I do not have a single Buck on camera over 110". Not sure what happened here over the last year. I have a bunch of 2.5yr olds running around. The only two real shooters I have is the Funky 5, only because he is a mercy kill. The F5 has a mangled leg and because of that has a normal side and then the other side the antlers grow down. The second one is a big bodied old deer. He has great main beams, but not much for tines off of them. He has to be 6 or 7yrs old and on the down side of things with his antlers. Well at least the kids will have some to shoot. Population is down as well. There is EHD in NJ this year. Think it may have rolled through here.

The grunts I heard earlier aren't grunts, they're a tree groaning even a good gust comes out of the SE. These winds are cooking me to the bone. Usually this little bowl I'm in is protected but not with S/SE. Holy hell. I'm getting down and getting coffee and a nap. Who'd a thunk back in camp by 11a on 11-6 but no deer seen and shivering not exactly inspiring me today
