Still having a rough start to my season. Lots of encounters but cannot seem to connect yet. Hunted 2 nights ago and had a bear come in to about 45 yards but would not offer a shot. He tipped over my bike and bit the seat all while I watched. Also played with my camera. Hunted yesterday evening and only had 2 turkeys come through. My cell cam did go off with a spike on it about 700 yards away so maybe I chose the wrong area to be in last night. Back out this evening. Let the cat and mouse games continue.

Alright, I think I’ve given this deer everything I can. We followed very sparse blood for another 2 hours going another 100 or so yards until we lost it. Then we grid searched the whole section of woods for an hour and a half. The whole time he was on blood it was like he was chasing a doe, just how the trail was it was like watching them from the stand going around.

Went through and checked cams and was driving along the other side of the property and saw a buck chasing a doe along some standing corn. I couldn’t see the side that I would have hit, but it looked a lot like him. We have another buck that looks similar so it could have been that one, but it looked like the bigger one.

Pretty discouraged after the last couple days, this is the first deer in 15 years of hunting that I didn’t feel like that is a dead deer after the shot. Going to take a couple days to recoup and I’ll be back up here Friday night to hunt Saturday and Sunday.

based on what you have said and pics posted, he's probably fine. That was bright red blood, and it was DRIPPING, not spraying (non-arterial.) If it was lungs it would have been pink. If it was liver/guts it would have been darker and smelly. If it was heart he'd been dead within 100-200 max.

No major arteries, heart, lungs, liver, or guts, almost 100% chance he lives.

I decided to go ahead and sit until 12:30 or 1:00 to see if anything moved during the moon overhead period.

I’m thinking I’m wasting my time. Even the squirrels are taking a nap.

I am always amazed how I could feel hungrier on the stand all day than I normally do just day to day. No matter how much food I take it's never enough on an all day sit. Can't tell you how many times I've dug through every pocket and my pack just hoping for a less than 2 year old rogue Hershey kiss or SOMETHING

Get out to my spot. Hang sticks, platform, get settled in saddle, pull up bow. Place bow in hanger. Go to load bow and realize quiver is back at the truck. Amour Fati.

seen a spike buck while I was hanging platform.
