The fact that he left his doe and headed to the thicket might suggest that he feels something isn't right. Might have got a better shot then you think.

Sorry for the lack of details. Working with a handful of people on opinions and trying to keep up with everyone.

Point of aim was about a little over halfway up the deer a little behind the crease. Wanted to go a little higher with the angle of the shot. arrow looked low, but didn’t think it was so low that it was a miss out of the vitals or a miss. Arrow looked clean when I found it, got back in the tree and looked at it again after 15 minutes and there was a little blood on the shaft and on one vane.

Buck jumped straight up at impact and ran 20 yards. No hunching up. Stood there for a couple seconds and took off after the doe he was on.

When in doubt back out. Give that deer some more time all things considered.

Doe and 2 fawns at 20 at last light directly down wind again to the east. Knew something wasn’t right but didn’t bust me. Watched them for a while and that doe is not happy with her fawns. She was bleating and kicking them non stop. Fawns bleating like crazy too. Was sure a buck was following that doe. But no luck.

    Back at it tomorrow afternoon.

This is what I was thinking too after getting to that point in the trail.

as of now, I’m giving it until 9:30 and going to continue on the trail. That will be 4 hours.

Oh I know. I was just hoping he would leave so I didn’t have to bump him.

I wasn’t about to spend the night in the tree though.

Just had breakfast for supper so I can have breakfast again for breakfast. Stopped and picked up some Folgers and some stuff to make faux egg mcmuffins. Been getting up an hour too early, but have kept doing so to fall asleep earlier which still doesn't happen

Might sleep in an extra 35-45 minutes tomorrow, going to need that extra energy for the gut-n-drag. Well, gut anyway, I'll be using the 4 wheeler to drag him.

Finally found my backpack. Felt all the pockets and storage areas, one had quite a bit in it. Was hoping for some new broadheads or something useful. Haven't used it since 2014.

2 full sized snickers and 5 atomic fireballs  Yeah, no thanks

Since I left all my gear in the tree I’m going back there in the morning.

If I don’t kill one then when the morning minor movement period is over I’m going to climb down, adjust that stand location, mark it for @S.McArthur , go back to camp, grab my other stand and set it up where I found some really good sign.

So I had a Goshawk fly in to land in front of my face at 15 yrds. It couldn't get it's feet set comfy so flew off again. By that time every unseen squirrel was barking it's alarm. I packed up and decided to look for my glove and avoid bumping deer in the wood lot. I got half way to lane way plot and bumped a buck out of the WLS right next to old reliable. I believe from side I saw a shooter, figures...Lol I continued and get out in plot to see a big body at the other end of plot coming my way. Well I had ran a drag on way in so....Yep woods walk home. Didn't spook any thing else

    My opinion.
If I start finding (pooled blood) within 100 yards, I know chances of finding that deer drop dramatically.
And I've trailed 100's of deer.
    Best of luck.

I do in the evening if it’s not going to rain or come a hard frost.
