Damn. Just had a stud on a doe . Of course they cut in behind me right downwind. She kept going and she was limping. He stopped right when he got to my down wind and turned around. Didnt stomp, didnt blow. Just turned around and reversed course. Smart one. I grunted a couple times when he was out of sight. Nothing. Also got a little video of him but barely catch him in frame ill post later

So will split this into 2 posts, first being morning in the "impromptu blind"

As stated, got in a bit before legal time of 7:01. Not much you can do in the dark but ait and listen. Never heard any deer just a couple raccoons squabbling. Light finally arrives and I drop some milkweed, drops straight down or slightly behind towards the creek. Had to store the milkweed in the mitten portion of fold back gloves, made it fun all day long, not.

Anyhow, I'm confident deer can come from either direction in front of me without scenting me. Facing south and nothing going to come down the pond dam. About 7:15 I look through my west window and see a deer's body come into view. Duck a bit lower and see itbnb is a young buck, goofy rack that followed his ears rather than a spike or fork. Was still half way between legal and sunrise so still a bit greyscale. He didn't hit the scrape, just milled about for a few seconds and went about his way. Likely could have killed him, but didn't try.

Light was bad and lens may have been a bit dirty at the time

Nothing else showed and I sat until 10:30 when winds started to pick up and swirl. Deer blew back behind me, but eff them, ain't hunting there.

Here's a pic of the finished set up. I have two viewing windows or if one hit the scrape or is slow moving I can stand up for a standing shot. The windows I can use to identify in one, and them shoot through the other for slightly quartering ahots if I so choose.

    My throne

That was a first,2 doe and a fawn came down hill to swamp 20 yards out of range. Plus a feral cat, 30 mins to go. Maybe a buck will follow...so cold!

Mis spoke earlier, my best hour was 11:20 to 12:15

So moved at 10:30 to my favorite ladder stand. Had a pretty good sit.

At 11:20 had this guy come out and walk the script.

    20211102_111943.jpg

Then at 11:56 had a small doex that yurned out to be a button buck come in, another following, was a second button buck. Then behind them was a spike that was working a scrape and harassing them. As soon as he approached they bolted around the teee and ran out of view

Then at 12:06 this guy came out, he was busted and had a patch of fur missing on back

Then at 12:13, this small 7 came out, had a split brow

There is a chance that the last one and the one harassing the button bucks were the same deer, I'm not certain either way.

It boosted my confidence extremely though. I've had 30+ sightings in a sit here before and was used to at least multiple per sit. Things have changed, but maybe not as dire as I had feared.

I did unload the 4 wheeler and leave it there as I have a feeling I'll be needing it over the next 4 days. Mature bucks should start making appearances next.

    Wierdest part about today?

As I am leaving and get up toward the house I just hapoen to look down. Baby garter snake laying there. Thought it froze to death, but as I stepped toward it, it slithered intibthe grass. Figured it would be hibernating in a den by now, strange this time of year.

    Have to look close

Well it was shaping up to be an awesome evening. The big 8 from earlier this afternoon showed back up. Tight on a doe, then bedded down 15 yards away from. I watched him for 45 minutes and then a fork horn comes by. He got up to push the fork away and then gave me a shot. Deflected off a branch. Got down, checked arrow, checked ground. Everything clean. now I can see the branch plain as day. He was 12 yards away.

I’m back in the stand. About an hour left.

    Biggest disappointment if the day?

I mentioned on the way in all the corn was out but about 10 acres of beans still standing closest field to property.

When I left today, took the other way, seen there was a couple hundred or more acres of corn still standing. Not coming out anytime soon

Shot straight over a big doe just now. Figured since it’ll be dark in 25 minutes I’d just go ahead and shoot her. She was the biggest of 7 deer in her group. I hate that. Y’all think those deer will avoid this stand for a bit?

A guy parked 200 yd from me..took the trail and flagged entire bedding area w north wind scent. Miles of roadway to work with and he decides to come in and flag my entire area. He must be desperate to hunt that spot if he sees me in parks, that is why that bedding area has only produced one deer in the 15 hours I've sat on it. That area will be eliminated the rest of the season.

Hard to say for sure but I doubt they even knew what really happened. Unless they saw, heard and smelled you...I'd hunt it again. Shake off the miss!
